This grand old hotel has a long history and a great location right off a main square where a variety of events occurred during our short stay... a clown convention, street performers, dance demonstrations. It was pretty lively at times but we didn't hear a thing in our room. The hotel not only is attached to a casino but backs... More

This faded Art Deco hotel must have been a stunner in its heyday, but it makes one sad to compare its current condition to the many historical pictures of what it looked like when it opened in the 1930's. The hotel is sorely in need of a major infusion of funds for a sensitive updating. The furniture is faded and... More

it is quite central locations with high walkability. The hotel was grand once, but now it just a memory of what it was in its hey day. Carpet looks suspicious- with funky wall paper. My room was a view of the AC unit but I didn't find it too be too noisy. The food was delicious. bathroom lighting left much... More

Although the staff was really friendly, the place is a bit run down and not really worth the price.. the first room we got only had a window to the court yard which meant quity noisy as thats where the Ac fans were, and also no view, but we asked to change and they were happy to give us a... More

This was meant to be a special stay for the end of our holiday. We had already spent a couple of nights in a nearby hotel but were 'upgrading'. After booking I emailed in advance explaining we had just got engaged and was it possible to get a good room with a nice view. Ha! The hotels common areas are... More

Our last night in Costa Rica we stayed in this hotel. Located in the heart of San José. this is the best place to stroll through San José. But if you don't have or don't want to be in the centre, I think you better choose another hotel out of the centre. Besides that is takes some time to escape... More

Thank you for your comments which are much appreciated. We are working on an upgrade of our window system to prevent the street noise penetrating our rooms and to assure a quite night rest to our customer. We hope to welcome you back to our hotel soon. More

The Gran Hotel is a nice place to stay. It's in a great location and is very easy to get around from. The room was quiet, fairly clean but could have been cleaner, and the bed was okay. The hot water took a long time to come out and the water pressure wasn't great at all once it did. We... More

Gran Hotel is easy to get to from the airport by taxi and is flanked by two pedestrian walkways with your pick of restaurants, shops and a tourist market. The hotel staff were very friendly and the rooms were clean. Don't get the rooms on the 4th floor. The sound of rolling luggage at 6 am from the breakfast crowd... More

Gran Hotel Costa Rica is a convenient overnight stop. During a recent trip to this region, I was a guest in this hotel for a second time. Both my travel circumstances and the room in which I stayed were similar to my first visit. After a long travel day from the States, I was not overly concerned that the bed... More
