We stayed here for 2 nights. We booked a standard room through Booking which seemed fine for our purposes. However, the room was cramped, had no a/c (we knew this, but thought it would have air movement through a window). Our window opened into some kind strange elevator shaft thing. The heat in the room was stifling and we heard... More

We didn't stay at the hotel, but we had lunch in the restaurant. There is a nice open air patio and makes for a great stop after exploring the theatre. Prices were reasonable and our meals were all very good. The hi light was the service. It was both friendly and efficient. There are not many outside restaurants in the... More

Hi, I really took my time to write this, I arrived to the Hotel and the booking was a disaster, cause I previously booked 2 nights and the added one extra, so there was two reservation at my name but they didn't respect the discount for three nights, besides the week before I wrote like 3 emails to fix this... The hotel grounds in front and the foyer were beautiful! We arrived late (12:30 am!) and were welcomed! It was a nice evening out, but our room was so hot and stuffy. We tried to open a window but we were right by the generator so it brought in more heat and lots of noise. The breakfast was good and... More

The highlight of this hotel is its location next to the National Theater, which is quite beautiful. The complimentary breakfast on the top floor was definitely a plus... a large selection of food, and nice views from the balcony. The rooms themselves left a lot to be desired though. I stayed in two different rooms (on the front and back... More

The Gran Hotel Costa Rica is the perfect location for getting the feel of the city. On arrival we were greeted by two beautiful green parrots perched in a tree above the entrance and then were graciously greeted by a very congenial staff. The hotel has great character and has attractive and historic public spaces. Yes, it could use some... More

Gran Hotel Costa Rica, it's in the meddle of San Jose. It's is close to everything! For example, Theater, Bank, ministery of justic, shopping center, KFC etc... I do not agree that this hotel is a 4 Star Hotel. It needs urgent reparation! The break is fast is served on the 4th Floor (buffet) with different variety. Because while booking... More

The hotel is very central, close to the gold museum and the opera. We stayed there for one night. It was the first hotel room i saw WITHOUT a free wall socket :/ very small bathroom. For one night it was OK.

fantastic location - right in the centre of everything in Central SAN Jose and very convenient. the rooms facing the national theatre are very good but the others were cramped and had no air flow. historic place but probably could do with an upgrade with carpet and walls etc the lifts need to be fixed up (e.g. floors labelled correctly... The room was adequate, what I expected having stayed there many times in the past. The WiFi was mostly non-operable. The most vexatious aspect I found after checking out. When I reviewed by debit charges, I found extra charges for "Hotel Extras" "Hotel Beds" and two other non-identified charges. I wrote the hotel asking for an explanation but received no... More
