This hostel is not like any other hostel. It looks like one of the finest hotel in any town, with clean and nice rooms with the perfect temperature and very good beds. Slept like a new washed baby. It had great Internet connection, but the computer on the second floor did not work. The bar and restaurant downstairs was very... More

I was backing through Central America and entering Costa Rica via Nicaragua by bus. I was also arriving at night. Glad I decided to stay at the Hostel Casa Colon. It's located very close to the bus terminal ( a couple of blocks) Cons: 1. San Jose is a city - so yes, there will be street noise. It didn't... More

My husband and I booked a room because of the positive reviews here, but unfortunately we had quite a different experience. Things started out badly from the beginning. We called the hostel several days ahead and asked for an airconditioned room facing away from the street, and we made a point of informing the receptionist on the phone that we... More

It's hard to believe this place is a hostel. The size of the rooms, the standard of the common areas, the cleanliness, and the incredible arqitecture makes it feel much more like a hotel. And still, the prices are completely bearable, even for backpackers who're on a budget, hence the luxury-bit. The breakfast was a bit cheap though; the eggs... More

I stayed here for one night while passing through San Jose. The hostel building (as advertised) is very nice and the room I was in was more like a hotel than a hostel. BUT... Our room was right on a main busy street and the noise coming from the outside traffic was unbearable. There will be some respite from maybe... More

Don't even think about staying here if you need sleep! While the pictures look charming, the website is incredibly deceptive. I tend to disregard overly negative reviews, so I hesitate to write this, but the facts are the facts and if I can keep one person from feeling as achey and tired as I am this morning, it will have... My husband, 5 month old daughter and myself had an appointment at the Embassy early, so we decided to come in on the bus the night before. Great location from the bus stations! Right around the corner, we were happy about that. The lady at reception was nice. She informed me of the WIFI password and breakfast times upon arrival.... More

This colonial mansion was recently converted into the most gorgeous hostel you can imagine. They kept the massive staircase, the 2nd floor open balcony, with the decorative railings, and it is breathtaking to imagine the family who would have built this and lived in it. Now its a clean, excellent quality hostel but also has private rooms and a family... More
