Location is terrible. We had a free evening after our stay at Arenal before our return flight from San Jose. This hotel is far away from the town cost us $ 20 by cab to get to down town. On the return trip the cabby could not find the hotel easily and it cost even more. The rooms are nice... more

My husband and I stayed here the last night of our honeymoon because it is fairly close to the airport in San Jose. It isn't terrible but it's not really impressive either. It feels like a hotel you would stay at close-by to the airport. The doors opening to our porch - which did have a fantastic view overlooking San... more

This was a great place for our family to begin our CR trip! We arrived @ the Alta after a long flight and were greeted with hospitality and friendliness as we checked in. We were greeted by the owner who was both kind and helpful. The staff was friendly and helpful as well. We loved the welcome drink too! The... more

We stayed here the last night of our honeymoon prior to flying out of San Jose. We actually wished we had more than one night. The hotel was so charming. We loved the spanish colonial style. Our room was very comfortable, and the view from the balcony was great. We really enjoyed the sunset and all the darting birds. It... more

This hotel is in a sad state of disrepair. A little TLC would improve it... My husband and I met the owner in the lobby - he is originally from CA too. I did not have the courage to ask him why he let his hotel get to this state. The hotel is older, rooms are showing signs of age... more

We stayed here for 3 nights in March, using it as our base for San Jose. This is a fairly small hotel in a Spanish style. Rooms were large, with a huge balcony overlooking the countryside. Every night we were able to see a sunset from our balcony, and one night we ordered room service and ate our dinner there. We... more

We stayed at the Alta Hotel over spring break 2008 and used the Alta as our 'home base' while sightseeing in Costa Rica. Located in Escazu, it is centrally located, and close to the airport without being downtown. Our top floor suite and balcony provided a 'castle's view' from above the city of San Jose. The rooms were warm and... more

I stayed there 3 nights in January, 09. Had fantastic views to the west from the balcony. Bed was very comfortable, good internet (free), good tv reception, excellent evening breeze. Continental breakfast included in room rate and breakfast was very good with good selection of pastries and fruit. Staff speaks good English, very friendly and helpful. Got a good rate... more

We stayed for 2 nights at the end of December 2008. It's a good base for San Jose and the surrounding area, comfortable with excellent views and pool area. We had a Junior Suite which was very spacious with separate lounge area, giant bed, balcony and large bathroom area. The decor was clean and new but rustic in appearance and... more

We stayed 2 nights at the Alta hotel when we arrived to Costa Rica. The room was nice except of the bathroom which wasn’t so clean, the view from the balcony was great. But – we were very disappointed of the front desk in this hotel. On our first day there we arrived in the evening and wanted to know... more
