We stayed at Kayak Lodge two nights. Our arrival was a bit early in the day, so the owner, Bernard, was kind enough to recommend some things to do (mangrove tour in kayaks, and the Rainmaker sanctuary). Both Bernard and his wife, Marlene, are very helpful, friendly, and kind. We stayed in the building near the kayaks and it was... More

We stayed for two nights at the Kayak Lodge. From the Lodge we travelled to the Manuel Antonio National Park (around 30 min). The Lodge can be easily reached by GPS. Breakfast was very good. We also had an excellent dinner in one of the nights of our stay. We took a Kayak trip from the Lodge, which was a... More

Trying to locate this place by GPS was impossible. Luckily they have a huge sign on the main road. You drive off the main road back through a Palm Grove to the property. Very quiet and in amongst some other homes and businesses. Just like much of Costa Rica, everything is behind locked gates. I felt very safe but many... More

I rented a car and highly recommend one to enjoy area. This is a great friendly place with a wonderful yummy breakfast. Rooms are spotless, the owners are very Kind and helpful. I did not use any of the facilities except room and breakfast. This lodge is down a very long residential street.

We recently had the pleasure to spend 8 days at the Kayak Lodge. I chose the lodge based on the reviews it received especially about the staff. They managed to far exceed my wildest imagination. We arrived in the pouring rain to be greeted by Bernard, the owner and gentleman I had been communicating with via e-mail for a number... More

Really liked this place. The people running this place are the nicest people I've ever met on vacation, and they really went out of their way to make us feel welcome. They are probably about 15 minutes from manuel Antonio, and I would definitely recommend renting a car if staying here. There is nothing within walking distance except for a... More

We stayed two nights at the Kayak Lodge in early June and had the whole place to ourselves as we arrived midweek. The owner Marlene was so nice and upgraded us to the suite. There were only three of us so we had a giant place that backed up right to the mangrove river. When we walked in there was... More

Now we are not talking about 4 season in NYC. Please keep in mind this review is for Costa Rica. The location is near Manuel Antonio which offers more night life. If you are looking for a quieter evening (say for a family), you may want to stay away from Manuel Antonio. Kayak Lodge's appearance is deceiving but for its... More

We just return from 8 days in Costa Rica and our last 3 nights were in kayak lodge, we picked this hotel because of the relatively good ( we were there during spring break so hotels were packed and pricy) price and location . We had a car so we drove ourself from monteverde and we did daily trip to... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Kayak Lodge is a Christian family hotel, committed to the natural environment: Protected area of tropical mangrove vegetation. The hotel has 20 rooms with private bath, air conditioning, hot water, local and satellite TV, outdoor pool, parking and launch ramp for kayaks and boat. The mangrove ecosystem of Isla Damas is one of the most visited tourist sites. Nature lovers can see one of the more unusual types of vegetation on the planet, and learn the importance of this delicate ecosystem. Mangroves grow in the tide land: where salty ocean waters merge with the fresh waters of tropical rivers creating a periodically submerged forest of interlacing aerial roots. There are about 50 km of canals where you are in the habitat of a variety of tropical flora and fauna. You can see white-faced monkeys playing in the trees, shake hands with a monkey on the balcony of the hotel, the lazy sloth, iguanas, crocodiles, bats, otters, raccoons, turtles, many types of resident birds, and the anteater. Take advantage of this diverse and self-sustaining way of life, taking a kayak trip to "Isla Damas" (Ladies Island), or rent a boat to go fishing. The Jetty of the Kayak-Lodge. This service center is used by operators to bring cruise tourists arriving in Puerto Quepos to give them a boat ride through the mangroves. Souvenir and gift shop, coffee, snack of biscuits, fresh fruit and beverages available.Throughout the year we offer boat rides and kayak rental. ... more   less
