Our vacation at Poor Man's Paradise was one of the best our family has ever had! We were able to fish (we caught yellowfin tuna, roosterfish, bonita and sailfish), horseback ride, explore Corcavado Rain Forest (only a short boat ride away), take a day trip up Rio Claro to see waterfalls, snorkel, and body surf on remote beaches, among other... This is really a paradise, and located on its own by a beach, so it’s very peaceful. Our rooms were nice and roomy and with efficient fans. Food is good and everybody is very friendly and helpful. Tours are arranged to Corcovado, ziplining etc. You have to get in and out of boats a lot, so “water sandals” wouldn’t have... More

I was told about Poor Man's Paradise by a friend of mine and I am so happy that I decided to make the effort to travel to the Osa Peninsula. It is truly a spectacular place. The rooms are basic and clean and mine had a ocean view. Please note that the setting is in the wild so there will... More

I traveled solo to this remote spot because I wanted to feel "one" with the wildlife and nature. My friends and family thought I was crazy, but, I knew enough what to expect by reading other reviews, but was still pleasantly surprised at how beautiful it was. I came with a backpack as there are no sidewalks to roll a... More

We just came back home after spending 4 nights in Poorman's paradise. We stayed in Cabin no19 El Bosque, owned by Carlos and Susan. It was exactly what we expected, simple, wild and in the middle of nowhere. I read the bad reviews which other people gave and I found them kind of annoying as this place is simple indeed... More

Lets get his right from the start - Poor Man's Paradise (PPP) is Marmite ( For those of you who are not familiar with the wonder spread - you either love it of hate it ). If you have any aspirations towards having a pampering holiday with fluffy towels and whale song playing in the spa, and fine dining with... More

I am flabbergasted reading some of the previous (poor) reviews. It looks like those people jumped on a boat expecting a luxury 5 star resort when the name of the resort says it all.....Poor Man's. Plus if you read the internet site, you know that you are getting back to basics. So if you're expecting all luxury, don't get on... More

We arrived here and found basically an unsanitary resort. They argued with us upon our boat arrival that we hadn't booked the owners lodge which we had and we had to finally threaten to leave (which we should have right then) to get our reservation. The grounds are not maintained at all and are overgrown and had dead plants lying... More

We had several contacts with the booking agent. We were told that all was fine. We arrived at the dock in Serpe and they had no confirmation that we were coming. They took our credit card and off we went on the boat ride. We arrived and there was nobody to great us at the beach. Again, they were not... More

We had the privilege of staying in Poor Man's Paradise during our 26 days round-trip of Costa Rica. The location of this little piece of paradise is incredible, but don't expect any luxurious resort. The 'Cabinas' are basic but (most of them) are quite newly build, so in a very good condition. There is no hot water, which you don't... More
