After having stayed at a few dingy, overpriced hotels where we were lucky to get a hot shower, the Monteverde Lodge & Gardens was a welcome, wonderful change! The staff was very warm and helpful, and the room was clean and nicely decorated (we paid $100/night for a room with 2 beds and a view of the forest). Our room... more

We showed up without a reservation and got better rates this way. The room was clean, comfortable and with a gorgeous view of the forest.Fans and hair dryers are available on request. There are nice trails to walk around and it is close to a very cool night walking tour. The staff is exceptional, especially Paola. We ate here all three... more

Monteverde Lodge was a great place to stay. We enjoyed it very much. On the outside, it looks older but the inside is completely renovated and up-to-date. We loved the wood floors, the comfy sheets, the corner window nook with a view of the forest. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, and it was a nice touch to greet... more

It was a pain getting to Monteverde on the mountain roads, but well worth it and the Monteverde Lodge was a great place to explore from. The rooms were set apart in different wings, each with different views of the area. Our room looked out into a forest. The decor of the hotel has a bit of a rustic feel... more

This place had all the comforts you would expect in a mountain lodge. There was one surprise though...the food absolutely blew us away. Four star quality. I have no idea how they can get a master chef up in this little mountain town, but they have one and he or she does a fantastic job. Breakfast and lunch are extremely... more

What a great place to stay!!.After a bumpy ride up the mountain from the PanAmerican highway, this hotel was one of the best we have ever stayed. From the front desk clerk who greeted us, to the waiters in the hotel restaurant, and to the ladies that clean up the rooms, they were great. The food was excellent. The rooms were... more

Monteverde Lodge exceeded all of our expectations. We were weary of the choice before getting there because of some of the reviews we had read. We had considered a few other hotels but then stuck with Monteverde Lodge. I am very glad we did. The beds couldn't have been better. They had the clean, white sheets of very high thread... more

This room was my least favorite during our stay in Costa Rica. We spent hours driving to Monteverde and checked into the hotel in the late afternoon. We were exhausted, starving and just excited to be out of the car! Upon entering the room, we both commented that it smelled like wet grass. Everything seemed a little damp (including the... more

March 2008 Spent 3 nights at Monteverde Lodge & Gardens while visiting popular cloud forest reserve. There is no town of Monteverde --- the central town is Santa Elena. Monteverde Lodge & Gardens is ideally located in a quiet area withing walking distance (.25 mi) of town center. Rooms are clean, well-equipped, comfortable, as large as presented on the hotel... more

My husband and I spent 3 nights at this lodge and out of the 5 places we stayed while on our extended trip in Costa Rica, this was one of the nicer. Some of the reviewers have complained about the roads going up to this lodge; however, we found it part of the charming experience. Have you ever traveled the... more
