Liked: The spacious, bright rooms with fantastic views. The rockers are a nice touch. The tour desk is extremely helpful and wonderful at organizing tours for you. Disliked: That we had to be 'banded' during our entire stay. The restaurant. Very dismal and depressing and the food was just plain awful. The huge climb from the restaurant / reception area... more

We stayed one night at El Establo and loved it! We were a little worried booking this hotel because some of the reviews were negative. After checking into our room I couldn't understand how there could be a negative review on this place. The place was stunning! The room was very nice and clean. The view was spectacular. We booked... more

My husband and I just returned from Costa Rica and spent 4 nights at El Establo hotel. First of all, the people in Costa Rica are very nice and friendly and the staff of El Establo was no exception. The rooms at the hotel are very nice and clean. However, there is no air conditioning and bugs do tend to... more

El Establo offers an amazing view of Monte Verde. I stayed in 4 hotels in Costa Rica over 10 days and El Establo had the best linens (towels, sheets, pillows) of any of the hotels I was at. This may be trivial to some people and an overlooked item when booking a hotel, but in Costa Rica I found most... more

We arrived at Monteverde very late, and didn't have many choices for a hotel. This one was a little expensive for us, but we ended up in the Honeymoon suite for 2 nights. The room was huge. The bed was huge and comfortable. There was a refrigerator, a large balcony with views of Lake Arenal, a jacuzzi tub (which smelled... more

We stayed at El Establo for 2 nights while touring Costa Rica. There's nothing really wrong with it - the rooms are big, clean and comfortable and the views are terrific. But it has absolutely no personality - you could be staying at the Holiday Inn in Peoria (and no offense to Peoria, it's a great town - it's the... more

El Establo is a beautiful hotel. The rooms are spacious with a balcony that opens up to the poor area. The pool area is clean and has a beautiful view, especially at sunset. The food at the restaurant was also very good. more

My family stayed at El Establo for three nights. Our rooms were huge and clean, and the beds were very comfortable. The bathroom is also large but the lighting was terrible. Also, the bathrooms have windows opening into the hallway, I guess for ventilation. The windows are high up, so it's not that anyone can see into your bathroom, but... more

We were two couples visiting five different places and we loved where we stayed in the other four, but El Establo is not a place to love. That's not to say it's bad, because it's upscale, but it has some problems. The first is its location. I'd read that it was on the side of a mountain, and when you're... more

We booked the honeymoon suite but changed to a regular room because the door of the suite was right near the entrance to the bldg. Because the outer areas were all tile, the acoustics were bad and we could hear every person coming and going. This hotel is built into a mountain, literally, and everywhere you walk is up or... more
