When you arrive, the first thing that strikes you is that the common porch full of hammocks and relaxed visitors put you in a different state of mind. We took a 3.5 hr bus ride from San Jose and the bus dropped us off right in front of Vista Serena. The view from the common porch is a relaxing view... more

When they say this is geared towards young people, they are absolutely not kidding. If you want to hang out and have fun with a bunch of amazing people from all over the world, this is the place for you. I will never forget the people I met there, or the owners, as they were absolutely amazing! By far he... more

This place is the BEST hostel ever...The coolest, most diverse group of people came through here for the 3 days that I was here, we cooked, danced, drank wine and Guaro...always music playing and always something to do, even if it's nothing...the owners (2 brothers Alex and Conrad) are awesome....My experience here was the best of Costa Rica...I didn't want... more

I stayed in one of the shared apartments (private room, shared bathroom, kitchen and living room area with one other room). I'm not sure about the dorm rooms, but the apt. was nice. The sunset view was spectacular. There is a great common space full of hammocks. Has wi-fi. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Located on the road... more

We really loved our stay in Vista Serena. The owners were very friendly and helpful with suggesting activities and making bookings. The hostel is well-maintained and very clean. The hammocks are great for getting a view of the sunset over the ocean and for hanging out at night. The private room in a shared cabin was really nice. I saw... more

I stayed here for 2 nights in July. It is fantastic! The owners are extremely helpful and keep the place spotless. I had heard about recent thefts there, and was advised to use the locker and did so, just like at every hostel I stay at. The porch has an unparalleled view and great hammocks. The porch is condusive to... more

First up, the view and the balcony was pretty cool. Getting robbed of all my cash ($600)only minutes before I left the place wasn't so cool. Days later I heard from people I met there that they also got robbed. The locals explained that it was nothing unusual at Vista Serena. Watch your cash, electronics and clothing! more

My friend and I stayed at the Vista Serena Hostel for three days in Mid-November and had a great time. The location is within walking distance of restaurants, atms, and a grocery store but not the beach. That is really the only drawback to this hostel. However one can catch the bus right down the street to get to the beach.... more
