Stayed at Villa Nicolas in Jan 08. It is not what some people would think of as a hotel, but more of a upmarket hostel. I think we stayed in room 6-Up, and it was gorgeous with a spacious bedroom and bathroom, and a vast terrace complete with hammock, seating area, and a breath-taking view that we never tired of!... We stayed for a couple days in August and got a Type 2 room - small balcony on top floor. We had a very nice time in this hotel. The room was clean and squared away, with a lockable closet that only you have the key too. The bathroom was clean and shower was big. My lady loved the complementary... More

We arrived at Villas Nicolas after a long and difficult car trip from San Jose with a car-sick 8-year-old. The reward was worth the effort. We were booked in unit 9, which had a bedrrom with two queen beds, a sitting room with two days beds and an amazing balcony with a hammock and dining table. The rooms were on... More

We were in the Manuel Antonio for a full week in July 2008 and stayed at Villas Nicolas the entire time...what a lovely place! And an exceptional value for the money! We stayed in 8 down, which clearly has one of the better views...you can see the ocean in the distance and an isand, with waves crashing in to its... More

Definitely not you run of the mill hotel. All the villas are uniquely furnished & as I understand, privately owned. Our villa had great character and was comfortable. Only used the pool once but it looked great. We did have a scorpion in the shower one night but all I did was scoop him into a glass and toss him... More

Amazing view. My unit had air conditioning! No covers on windows and doors makes you feel like you're in a fish bowl and also made us feel a bit vunerable at night. Very few other guests staying there. Woke up the first moring to howler monkeys howling, white faced and squirrel monkeys playing off of the balcony. Saw a couple... More

This hotel has individually owned unit and we didn't realize this until we got there. Some are nice (ones on their web site) and others are in great need of updating. We were in the level 6 rooms which has a large unit down stairs and the smaller one upstairs. We were in #11. It looked like it hadn't been... More

Villa Nicolas is a charming hotel perfectly located on a beautiful part of the Costa Rican coast. The rooms are more like staying in a mini apartment with a really great balcony than a hotel room. The photographs on this site are accurate. We found the staff very friendly, and while the hotel property is not new, we found it... More

Overall, this is a very cool place. We stayed in 3 Up, and we did have some lovely views. The porch was huge, complete with a hammock, rocking chair, another chair, and a bench w/ cushions. Now the downside was that there were shades for all the window except the ones facing the balcony -- which is also generally the... More

After much research, I finally decided on Villas Nicolas because of the other previous positive reviews. It was the last leg of our trip and I thought we would splurge on a place with a nice ocean view to end our trip with. Upon arrival we oohed and aahed over the view. However once we checked out the room, we... More
