Pros: - very clean, spacious and private rooms - good breakfast - great views - nice private beach - close to a small supermarket - close to manual antonio park (which however I dont recommend, super touristy, its better to visit other national parks, such as Corcavado) Cons: - If you have dinner in your room, they wont come get... Great hotel, great views, amazing secluded beach! Nothing bad to say about the hotel at all. Really gives you a sense that you're not at a big, crowded resort. We've been several times over the years and really enjoy the walk down to the beach. It is kinda steep though, but we typically need the exercise after eating all their... More

What a place for a couple to stay! We got the no. 5 villa with a view of the rain forest canopy and ocean. Woke up to monkeys outside our balcony. Very friendly staff. Breakfast in your room. (can't understand how people are complaining about this) Infinity pool. Massive super comfortable bed. Wake up to the rain forest. Cant say... More

I chose this hotel for the views and the seclusion, and I wasn't disappointed in that. We enjoyed gorgeous sunsets over the ocean from our room each evening. We stayed in studio 3, which is one of the less expensive rooms, but it felt spacious and well laid-out, and the bed was FANTASTIC. Seriously, it was a comfortable, king-sized mattress... More

Splurged on this gorgeous looking resort. The grounds were beautiful and gardens stunning. Our room was a bit dated but partly renovated and had an amazing view. We were only paying for the basic room, so it was to be expected. We found out that the restaurant/bar was not open, due to renovations so we had to take breakfast in... More

Went to Makanda with my family. Starting with the good stuff, there is only 1 remodeled room, and the pool area is also modern. Staff is friendly and the concept of the hotel is nice. They have huge opportunities to improve. You can only have breakfast if other room hasn't reserved the time you want or need your breakfast to... More

Both units show a "private pool"--but it's the exact same photo. When I called they said that the 2 units are one on top of the other and share the same pool and deck. Quite different if you're looking for privacy! I hope they update their website!

We visited Makanda in June, 2015 as one of four hotels we stayed in during our tour of Costa Rica. I had read mostly very positive reviews and were excited to stay at the Makanda during our time in the Manuel Antonio area. Beginning on a positive note, the hotel sits on a hillside with a lovely view of the... More

Absolutely incredible! Love love love the staff. We went during low season and were lucky enough to get an upgrade. The villa was GORGEOUS. Probably the best hotel we have stayed in. Would love to come here again! We even purchased two of the plush robs. Definitely a gem.

We were upgraded to villa 1 upon arrival. It was amazing! There are truly not words to describe the wonderful times we had. From the catamaran, the in room massage (all booked by the staff), it was truly the perfect end to our trip. We were there off season, and we only saw another couple on the grounds once. It... More
