My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights a week ago. The location is perfect with the ocean view. The breakfast is pretty neat as well. The best part of the hotel is the quietness and low number of guests. We loved going to the beach and even though it is a little hike back, well worth it. Nobody... More

We needed a relaxed getaway and Makanda By the Sea was the perfect spot. The views are incredible, there is an amazing amount of recreational options nearby, and the staff is outstandingly gracious. You cannot beat the experience of sitting in the infinity pool with the perfect drink in hand while gazing at the ocean, to then suddenly have a... More

Top shelf. That's all I have to say about this place. I mean, seriously, top shelf. Here are my points. 1) Great location, I can't imagine a room there not having a view of the ocean that's landscaped by plush greenery all around it. The view from your room could be a postcard. 2) Great breakfast 3) The drinks at... More

The staff are friendly and attentive. The food (especially breakfast) is delicious. The setting/views are incomparable. Every day we woke up and couldn't believe how beautiful this place is. Getting around the hotel involves quite a few stairs but it is so worth it! There is so much privacy and the views are spectacular.

My husband and I spent four nights in villa number 5 last week. It's true the villas are private, very large, romantic, well equipped, very comfortable and with a sense that you are alone in the jungle. While the steps involved to reach the villas might be challenging for a few, my husband and I are in our mid-fifties and... More

Just got back from 1 week at Makanda. We were very excited to be staying here and I can tell you that the hotel lives up to the pictures online. The view from the rooms and the pool are breathtaking. The restaurant serves excellent food; has an incredible view and a limited menu of course but we ate there twice... More

This exclusive resort is embedded within the Rain Forest of the Manuel Antonio area. There are only 8 villas or studios. Each with its own patio. We had stayed in Villa 8 and it's extremely spacious, has a kitchenette, large bathroom and a walk in closet. Breakfast is bought to you each morning based on the selection(s) you make the... More

My husband and I stayed here for three nights and had a wonderful time! The ocean view from our room was perfectly framed by lush jungle. We sipped coffee in the mornings on our porch/balcony and watched toucans in the trees. The private beach here is amazing as well and the hike to get to it makes it even more... More

We stayed here for our honeymoon and had the greatest stay! It is down a small road - which seems to be were most of the upscale hotels are located. It really feels like you are in the jungle, since the rooms are setup as bungalows, so only two rooms to each bungalow, one on the top and one on... More

We love Makanda by the Sea. We were very pleased with the location, the room, the food and the service. Marvelous Marvin was our favorite and took great care of us during the trip. I can understand why some are bothered by the walk and stairs, but we are fairly young and in shape, so it really did not phase... More
