This is my second review of Pachamama, and honestly, there is nothing that I can say that hasn't already been said many times on this site about Pachamama and Franz. I is a wonderful place to stay, to relax, and to listen to the ocean. But the host makes the experience. No matter what it is that you want to... More

After a road trip around all of Costa Rica, Mal Pais and especially Pachamama is the place my wife and I look forward to returning to most! Franz was extremely helpful any every way possible. When we arrived he had upgraded us to a full house from the bungalow since we were the only ones staying there at the time.... More

My partner and I stayed at Pachamama for 3 nights and had the perfect stay. Originally we planned to stay in the tepee but when we arrived Franz (the owner) sorted us out with a bungalow (with kitchen/bathroom included) at a great low season price. The location of Pachamama is fantastic - it's surrounded by trees (with iguanas, monkeys, squirrels,... More

Pachamama is very unexpected as you drive from Carmen towards Mal Pais. The grounds are secure and very well kept and only host a few guests at the same time - nice if you are wanting to escape the crowds. This oasis offers one of the most valuable features when you are traveling - a great host! Franz has made... More

We were looking for a rainforest hideaway that allowed us to connect with nature and it's inhabitants and at the same time was a stone's throw away from the ocean - Pachamama met all our requirements! Early in the morning and at dusk we heard the howler monkeys and as we sat out on our balcony we enjoyed feeding papaya... More

From the moment we arrived at Pachamama we felt at home. Franz greeted us with the warmest smile and we immediately felt relief and peace from out long travels. The tropical garden alone is complete paradise. There is an amazing overlook that spans your horizon for miles upon miles and is a short stairway to Heaven. We were absolutely amazed... More

Friends and I rented out the large house for 4 nights. And honestly this was the best part of our Costa Rican trip. Sure it takes forever on dirt back roads to get here, but it's worth it when you arrive. The town, the people are all amazing here. Pachamama is a short walk from town where there is great... More

Franz has created a lovely environment here in his tropical garden. We stayed in the fully equipped two bedroom house, which has a balcony and outside barbecue area. Franz is keen to ensure you make the most of your stay, however short. He recommended a nearby beach for us to swim and see the sunset, two great restaurants ( Mary's... More

We traveled to Costa Rica without reservations during the winter holidays and were lucky enough to contact Franz at Pachamama Tropical Garden Lodge who had a little bungalow in the woods available. It was peaceful and secluded, perfect for our family of 4, and just a short trip to the beach. While we didn't see Franz much since we were... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Pachamama Houses and Bungalows is the perfect place for people who like sports, nature, sun and beach. Only 1 km away is Cabo Blanco, the first national park created in Costa Rica, in 1963.We have two bungalows, each with a double bed and shared terrace for $60 a night, monthly $1400. A third bungalow is on a second floor with a double bed and private terrace. All lodgings are fully equipped with hammock, kitchen, fridge, fan, private bathroom with hot water. The house for rent has air condition and is fully equipped. There are 2 bedrooms, a beautiful terrace with BBQ, outside shower, hammock for $140 per night, monthly $2800. We have wireless internet, security 24 hours, private parking and cleaning service. It is the best option, for relaxing and enjoying the nature. We have a lot of wildlife in our tropical garden: butterflies, exotic birds and monkeys hanging around in the trees, and our coati, a sort of raccoon, which always comes to pick up his breakfast from us. The bungalows and the house are about 50m from the beautiful and quiet beach of Mal Pais. Here surfers find perfect waves year round. Air temperature is 30-35 degrees and water 24-26. We offer surfboard rentals and surf lessons. I'm a passionate kite surfer and if there is coming up some wind I'm in the ocean with a 16 m2 Kite. The wind is 15-20 knots from January to May. It is possible to rent a small house for $80 a night as well. It is fully equipped in a very beautiful and quiet place only 200m from the beach. Perfect location for 2 people. Monthly $1500We can reserve a hotel and transfer in San Jose, or book you a rental car in San Jose or in Mal Pais. ... more   less
