Punta Leona We are a middle-class California family. We visited in the week before Christmas, 2006. Our goal was to take our teenagers to a place where they would get a taste of a different culture, but wouldn't be too frightened by it. We specifically did not want to go to a typical North American chain hotel, nor did we... More

We stayed here in June, 2006. The room smelled like mold, and when I contacted the staff, their answer was to come in and spray Lysol into the wall A/C unit. It didn't help. I complained, but they said there were no other rooms and we couldn't cancel and move because of the hotel's cancellation policy. It rains often in... More

I have been reading reviews on this site for several years now and they have really helped me when deciding where to go. That is why I am now contributing. This review may seem dated but I wanted to make sure people knew how great this resort is. We were married here in March of 2002 and we are going... More

Advantages: 1) Not too crowded 2) Plenty of pool options 3) Supermarket on property 4) Infinity pool by Leonamar Suite was gorgeous 5) Spacious suites Disadvantages: 1) Far/expensive cab ride to Jaco 2) Restaurants were thoroughly unimpressive 3) Service was awful, awful, awful* * You need to take vans to move around parts of the property. To get a van,... More

Just got back from Costa Rica. It was my first trip and found it to be the most beautiful place I've been to yet. We stayed in the Lenomar Villas. The veiw from the pool was beautiful and we had the pool all to ourselves. The property as a whole needs a little tlc, mind you it is the rainy... More

We just returned from a week long stay at Punta Leona. We were there for our honeymoon and loved it! It was the rainy season, so yes, it rained every day starting around three but, we used that as an excuse to take a daily afternoon nap. The hotel offers so many things to do and see we only left... My new husband and I stayed at the Hotel Punta Leona for our honeymoon in Costa Rica. It's located about 5 kilometers from the front entrance on the highway, and therefore seems very secluded and rural. It's actually a sanctuary for wildlife, specifically McCaws, which are beautiful but very LOUD. We stayed in a Selvamar room and got the honeymoon... More

Hi, I've just read the 19 reviews already posted and can understand the majority of them despite the differing opinions. We first stayed here back in July 2001 and enjoyed it so much we deliberately returned this time. However, whether YOU will enjoy a stay at Punta Leona will very much depend on what you are expecting and are used... More

I've read some of the other reviews on this site and I believe that most of the negative reviews are from people who were expecting something different. Punta Leona is part traditional "all inclusive" beach resort, and part nature preserve. True, property maintenance is more "good enough" than "over the top", but how many beach resorts own and maintain a... More

Punta Leona was charming, clean and spectacular. The rooms are well appointed, clean and the air conditioning was working to perfection. The restaurant served marvelous buffets with plenty of variety and above average quality of meats. The beaches were out of this world. I saw sea turtles and many tropical fishes snokeling just off the beach. There was evening entertainment... More
