We could not have been happier during our stay at this lodge. The food was superb, not just typical Costa Rican cuisine. Our group leader, who grew up in Costa Rica, even asked for several recipes! But the birding was even better as we got several hard to get species with the help of guides from the lodge. The fresh... More

This is a jaw dropping lodge camp set on the edge of the Piedras Blancas NP. The wildlife can be seen, especially birds, agouti and coatimundi but if you're hoping for a chance at seeing the elusive jaguar, well...as one of the German staff members pointed out "its not a zoo here" And boy is she right on. LOL, where... More

My family was treated to a magical experience in the rainforest. It is impossible to explain all the jungle sounds that you are immersed in. All the staff at the lodge were very friendly, the guide Chico was excellent, and the food was the best we had in Costa Rica. The setting for the Villa where we stayed gave us... More

The grounds are beautiful and the food great, but the people are the best part of staying here. They took really good care of us and helped immensely when we missed a flight. Our tour guide turned in to a friend that I hope to see again.

We stayed for 3 nights the first week in May. Shared the resort with only one other couple, so it felt like our private estate. Agree with all the other positive comments about the facility and staff. During our trip to Costa Rica, we stayed at 4 hotels, of all of them, the staff at the Esquinas was the friendliest... More

Esquinas Rainforest Lodge, La Gamba, 17th March 2015; length of stay, 1 night Lush, verdant, beautiful gardens around superb thatched wooden lodge building, lovely. Thank you for your kind and positive review of Esquinas Rainforest Lodge. We are taking advantage of the low season to renovate the buildings, paint the roofs of the cabins and repair the roof of the main building. Please recommend us to your friends! or - even better - visit us again! Michael Schnitzler (owner) More

This lovely eco-logde is worth every bit of the 5.5 hours' drive from San Jose. From reservations with Julia, who was very accommodating with rates, to Elisse's and Alexandra's kind consideration for my dietary limitations, the service here is superb...and they are tri-lingual! Spanish, English, German. The best part is the peace of the forest, totally surrounding us, and that... More

This remote eco-lodge in the heart of the rainforest is perfect for those looking to get off the beaten track and close to nature. The birdlife here is incredible... toucans, motmots, hummingbirds - the trees are all of a flutter with multi-coloured feathers! We also saw agouti, caiman, basilisks and lots of bats. The guided night walk to look for... More

We were really disappointed by the accommodation in this lodge. The room was small, with two single beds and a small shower room, very spartan. The swimming pool was dirty. There were some fabulous birds and agoutis to see, but otherwise the atmosphere was really depressing. The food was not well cooked, there was no choice, and I understand that... More

We were sorry to read that you did not enjoy your stay at Esquinas Lodge. Fortunately, 138 guests rated us as "excellent" or "very good", and only two (including you) rated us as "poor", but we will take your comments seriously and work to improve our standard. It was more of a coincidence that you encountered only German-speaking guests during... More
