Amatierra- love of the earth is the perfect name for this gem of a retreat. Tucked away high up in the hills overlooking a vast lush jungle filled with wildlife and exotic sounds is the setting for this beautiful ecological paradise. Coming from a filthy noisy concrete jungle, this was just what my husband and I needed to really get... More

I booked my stay with Ama Tierra last-minute and thankfully Jill and Bob (the owners) had room for me in their lovely retreat. The second I stepped on to the tranquil property I felt totally comfortable and at ease. This feeling of peace and quiet stayed with me for the remainder of my stay in Costa Rica. First of all,... If you are looking to get away, relax and really unwind this is the place. Wonderful setting, food and service. This is not your typical getaway place. I had a wonderful massage followed by a great lunch and sat in the sun by the pool.....listening to macaws and other rainforest creatures. Who needs anything more? More

A perfect Costa Rica setting to sit back, relax and let the sounds of nature surround us and let the atmosphere fill our minds. Yoga to start the day, breakfast on the patio overlooking the rainforest. A book by the pool, while watching the wildlife, birds and butterflies play around. There was time for walks around the organic garden and... More

Looking to re-connect with yourself and nature? Ama Tierra is for you! Jill and Bob Ruttenberg are the greatest hosts I've ever had. You will eat three incredible healthy meals per day, do yoga, hike, see waterfalls, go to the beach, etc.. all this while saring the site with other interesting intellectual guests. They take care of eveything for you..... More

The fact that this review has taken 6 weeks for me to sit down for is testimonial to how amazing a time I had. I could have jotted down a few words a month ago, but AmaTierra was worth FAR MORE!!! For starters...Jill and Bob-and every staff member I encountered-were the perfect balance of accommodating but not intrusive. I truly... More

I was looking for a place to travel to by myself to get away from the hectic day-to-day and immensely enjoyed my weeklong stay. This was my first solo trip abroad and I was a little nervous about getting to the hotel and feeling out of place at meal times. I didn’t have to be any reason to be concerned... More

Aptly named Ama Tierra, this serene retreat celebrates natural diversity and is quite the zen epicenter in the verdant hillside of Costa Rica. Ama Tierra is co-owned and operated by Bob & Jill whose hospitality made this an exceptional experience. My solo holiday spanned the New Year, and was precisely what my soul called for, a reprieve from daily demands... More

We started our trip at AmaTierra, and then changed our plans to go back there instead of going to the beach for the last few days of our visit. It was great to take a yoga class and look out at the sun setting over the jungle, feel the warm breeze, and watch bats flitting about the studio! Bob &... More

We just love this place! The hosts are great, nature is smiling at you from evey corner, and you meet beautiful talented people to hang around with in the evening living room. We even like the fact that it's really difficult to find the place... We already recommended it to all the other people we met in Costa Rica! Shevi,... More
