The hotel is sandwiched between the Caribbean ocean and the Tortuguero river with easy access to each. On site there are two nice size pools and a great restaurant that offers buffet sized meals. We had different kind of fresh juice for the eight meals we ate there. The rooms are not air-conditioned and was very noisy at night with... More

Unfortunately the weather was terrible for most of our stay and this does impact on our impression. The setting of the lodge is lovely and the grounds are beautiful and well kept with 2 swimming pool that looked good. The lodge is within walking distance of the village and adjacent to the beach where we saw baby turtles hatching. The... More

Staff was friendly and quite competent. The rooms were spartan and clean. The other areas, pools, snack shop, etc., were quite nice. Umbrellas were plentiful, and necessary. The food (buffet style) was adequate, to not adequate, with the menus repeating after two days. Having assigned tables was a negative because you did not get the chance to interact with new... More

Positives Located close to the park. Calming. Rustic but clean. Coffee, tea and crackers available at all times. Adjacent to the ocean. Easy walk to the beach with access to turtle nesting area. Descent food. Sprawling property with well maintained grounds. Two large, nice pools with one reserved for adults. Friendly and helpful staff. This is a lodge. Rooms are... More

Our room was very clean. There are no windows, but screens kept all the bugs out. Rooms are simple, no tv or clock, only soap provided. Porches were nice with great rocking chairs to watch the great gardens. Pools were clean, but we didn't get to use them. Tours with Carlos were fun and we saw lots of wildlife. The... More

One of the most beautiful places on earth. Lodge is very remote and slow pace. No TV, Phones, or hi speed internet. This 2 day stay on our tour was the highlight. Staff was excellent and the food was awesome. Almost like living off the grid. A must see and stay just for the peace and quiet. Monkeys, birds, turtles,... More

This was the first place we visited once we've arrived in Costa Rica. A peaceful place which you enter after a trip with the boat from app. one houre. Our guide Javier was very practical and no nonsense. The trips which were included or which you could book separately at the hotel were very good, we've seen all kind of... More

Rather out of the way, needing a boat trip to get there. Good, plain accommodation; good, plentiful food, lots of wildlife along the waterways and in the hotel grounds; local town colourful (but a bit of a shanty/tourist trap). You need a poncho here! Umbrellas are provided, and often needed to get from the dining room to your cabin!

Laguna Lodge is reached after a couple of hours in a boat based on a native pirogue, long and narrow, and perfect for the water conditions. Caiman, a large crododile, toucans and monkeys seen enroute. The lodge, at water level, offers one level of accommodation - plain rooms, clean, poor lighting, our only complaint, and surprising good washroom facilities. The... More

We were there in the beginning of November, still rainy season... But that's the way to experience it. We were given umbrellas and ponchos when needed. To get there, you take a boat for an hour that travels through the rivers. Great sites on the way. Other boat rides include an early morning (6 a.m.) to see the early risers... More
