This is a comfortable, friendly and well run hotel fighting back the jungle and its inhabitants on a daily basis. There are plans to develop the eco credentials further and take advantage of the fertile soil to grow produce. The remoteness of the area and the enjoyable boat trip in, enhance the enjoyment of this hotel.

This was a luxurious lodge. The rooms and hotel were beautifully decorated and immaculate. The bar area was nice as was the restaurant. Food was very good as were the cocktails. The owner was “hands on” and very personable. The pool area had a great view and the gardens were beautiful. We saw lots of wildlife both at the lodge... More

Likes: - Air conditioning. As far as I know, this is the only hotel in the area that offers it and it works well.  - The group size. There was only one other couple with us, so we got to know them well. We even stayed at the same hotel in Arenal by coincidence.  - The tours. Well organized and... More

We stayed an extra day and found more to do than they mentioned (canopy tour, walk the beach to Tortuguero village, fishing). Once we understood how to see monkeys and iguanas in the trees, we were finding them more and more. Loved the howlers. The only negative is I felt like I was tipping everyone (ie tour driver, guide, boat... More

Lovely room, gardens full of animals before you even start looking for them on the river tours. Basically, one spends a couple of days trundling along the canals and waterways being amazed by the wildlife, before returning to base to freshen up up with a frozen margarita and a 3 course dinner. In fairness, although the food isn't bad, it... More

Efficient pick up in San Jose, comfortable aircon mini-bus for transfer, stopping enroute for breakfast and brief trip round banana plantation, informative commentary on the sights as we crossed the volcanic devide and dropped down into Lemon province. Easy transfer to boat for the very pleasant hour long cruise to the remote lodge. The main lodge and the fourteen rooms... More

This was the sixth hotel we stayed in during our one month tour of Costa Rica. Excerpt from my daily blog as follows:- Day 16 We had to get to Cano Blanco Pier to get the boat to Tortuguero. Our tour operators said it was at Guapiles, but it was in fact nearly 60kms further on, the last 35kms or... More

Beautiful location, charming staff, very comfortable rooms and nice menus. The best thing, the views and the peace from the pier. If we, someday come back to Tortuguero, we will stay at Manatus for sure. The experiene was unforgettable.

Location was superb. The hotel is not located in Tortuguero Village, but a few minutes on a boat outside, which means you will have an undisturbed nights rest. The rooms are very nice, with a lot of attention to detail. The airco is very nice in this warm climate and above all, its silent! The beds were very nice and... More

Great little hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. The boat ride to and from the hotel is an experience in itself and the excursions in open boats on the waterways are rich in wildlife experiences, particularly so for birds. We also saw sloths, howler monkeys, capucine monkeys and alligators, some of them at very close distance. The food is... More
