Set in deep jungle accessible only by boat. Howler monkeys wake you at dawn. Generous lunches and acceptable food. Only twelve identical bungalows make up this hotel which are comfortable and reasonably equipped. Iguanas shin up the trees outside and basilisk lizards lounge in the grounds. Boat rides from the hotel are atmospheric (even in tropical rain storms) and sightings... More

Our first impression of this accommodation was not very inspiring..the 'villas' looked a bit like Nissen huts from the outside, but were surprisingly comfortable on the inside. There were lovely four poster beds, a huge shower, and air conditioning. The only thing missing was tea and coffee making facilities, and as the weather was atrocious for our short stay, confining... This is a small hotel a few minutes boat trip outside the Tortuguero National Park. You can only get there by boat along the canals. Nice casitas, good restaurant, although being all inclusive the menu doesn't change much - not a problem as you only stay for about 3 days. Great guides and other staff. The landing stage was being... More

We had fantastic experience in the Manatus hotel location fantastic. Program great. Service phenomenal. Louis our guide was excellent. Food excellent every meal. Rooms were excellent as well. Total staff friendly and accommodating. Had very few negatives. Would have given it a perfect except for three things. Shower perfect but strangely no hot water in sinks. Could not understand this.... More

This is a little gem of a lodge! Surrounded by jungle and on the banks of the lake, there are only 12 rooms – 3 bungalows housing 4 rooms each. Our room (number 6) had views of the lake and was very comfortably appointed with good beds and linen. The bathroom had a good shower with lots of hot water... More

We visited a few places in Costa Rica between December 2014 and January 2015. The place where we spent New Years Eve was the Manatus Hotel. It is a family owned, quiet hotel with great staff and amazing tours. The bungalows are nice and spacious with satellite TV. The grounds are really well kept and the staff is friendly. The... More

For us, this was what we were looking for from our trip to Costa Rica; a very comfortable lodge, in beautiful surroundings, teeming with wildlife, waking up to the cries of Howler monkeys and watching a young heron try to work out what to do with a crab just ouside our room. The lodge is small; 12 rooms in 3... More

Wow what a great place. We were greeted by fantastic staff that made us feel very welcome. Our room was spacious and clean and the restaurant had great views of the river. Do take the tours offered by Louis, he really knows is stuff and is incredibly knowledgeable, pointing out lots of interesting wildlife including a praying mantus when we... More

We are really glad that we added Tortuguero to what we initially planned as a beach vacation on the southern part of Costa Rica's Caribbean coast, and especially that we chose to spend those extra days at exactly this lodge. The staff was extremely friendly and diligent. We arrived via some strange transportation hiccups (with another company), but we were... More
