I stayed at Anhinga Lodge as part of a Caravan tour. The wildlife is absolutely amazing and the birds, howler monkeys and crabs *under the walkways in numerous holes) right outside my lodge were really something. I wished I had brought a tape recorder to record the amazing jungle noises too. All in all, I am really glad I got... More

After an interesting boat ride to the lodge I was immediately in love! The raised board walk to our cabin was filled with wildlife...from a sloth hanging in the tree, a porcupine taking a nap above him, howler monkeys squabbling with each other and playing with their young to a nice assortment of butterflies...and all this before we unpacked. I... More

recently a friend and I stayed at the pachira lodge in tortuguero. getting there was an adventure. enroute to the lodge we stopped for lunch, and spotted two sloths kicking back on a tree. that was cool. then we sped along the river by boat to the lodge. best to keep camera eguipment in a bag, as a few drops... We are happy we saw the whole area but the lodge that is situated in the middle of it all and therefore has the perfect location is very very basic . A cabin in the forest with the minimum facilities and almost in edible food . We stayed only one night so as to enjoy the river drive and leave

As part of the Caravan.com tour of Costa Rica, we spent two nights and days at this hotel and touring the area including the Turtle centre. The hotel and food was very good, one hint, the rooms have no air-conditioning, the climate is hot and humid so be warned.

Instead of repeating what's in the many reviews of this place, here are some tips on how to survive your stay at Pachira Lodge. It's well worth putting up with the primitive conditions to see some of the most amazing wildlife you'll see anywhere -- and that's just while walking from your cabin to the dining hall. (E.g. our last... More

We stayed here for two nights on our tour, which was long enough to enjoy the area. Our room was large, with comfortable beds, and screened windows, which allowed the air to flow through and the Howler Monkeys to begin their chorus at 5.00AM each morning. We saw lots of iguanas and a snake on the property which was rich... More

You have to bear in mind that there are very few hotels in the Tortuguero National Park so there's little choice and all seem to be very busy. It's full board because you can't just nip down the road to a restaurant. There's a village across the river but for the brief time you'll be staying here it's not worth... More

This hotel is right in the middle of the rain forest. The rooms are simple but clean and the beds are very comfortable. The food was excellent and the hotel grounds are well kept. Just walking the grounds is nature at its best. We were there as part of our Caravan Tour.

I stayed in a small lodge in Tortuguero 15 years ago and it was the highlight of my trip. I was expecting the same type of laid-back experience this time and was disappointed. Pachira Lodge caters to large group tours and was run somewhat like a cruise ship with tightly regimented meal times, tours and activities. We enquired about a... More
