We booked the whole trip to Tortuguero with Pachira lodge. We were picked up from San Jose, they took us for breakfast, they arranged the boat to Tortuguero and some activities to see the animals around. The hotel is very nice, in the middle of the nature and with a great swimmingpool. The tour guide was really kind and nice.... More

Pachira Lodge is one of several eco lodges in or next to the Tortuguero National Park. It can only realistically be accessed by a one and a half hour river boat from the river bank at La Pavona. We returned the same way in torrential tropical rain and the steep mud river bank was problematical, bordering on dangerous, when trying... More

Our family had a wonderful time going on the tours with our knowledgeable guide, Fernando. The lodge was beautiful, food and service were excellent and we saw a vast array of wildlife. Make sure to take a rain poncho for the unexpected rain....and sometimes for the boat ride into the lodge.

I had a lovely room far from reception and walkways. Thus, it was quiet. There are no windows to close, only screens and slow moving ceiling fan. So there is little privacy and it can be noisy. Luckily, I had both (privacy and no noise). We had our own guide so it was a personal and intimate experience for us.... More

We were there on Christmas day. Our guide for the bus trip told us nothing of the resort, and friends said that the other guide/bus did fill them in. We not only get told where to sit and they place the food on your plate, but there is little selection and the food is far from restaurant quality. We were... More

I do not usually give excellent ratings and this place had flaws, but for where it was and the volume of tourists who are able to reach this very remote location I really think they did a very good job. We were incredibly fortunate to have a wonderful, and not yet jaded, guide. She was able to get us on... More

Depends upon your expectations, but we found the lodges rather basic, with no privacy (you can hear everything that's going on next door). Bathroom also a little basic - no hot water taps, although hot water in the shower. Just felt ready for an upgrade. Large restaurant with no choice of where to sit and we found the food a... More

Bungalow with four apartments in each. Many sounds, both from animals and the neighbors. Buffet is OK. Hotel staff is nice and waiters very attentive. Guides on local excursions are patronizing and treats guests as they are school children. The area is very touristy, but it is still possible to see the hummingbird, howler monkeys, iguanas. Animals found in many... More

Reading the Trip advisor reviews before we went to Pachira Lodge makes us wonder if we went to the same place! The location itself is perfect and the boat trips and walks were very good and well guided (and everybody was friendly and efficient). The problem we had was the ‘mass tourism’ feel of the whole thing. The first problem... More

Where do you start. First the transfer to the hotel along the canals and Lucky River at speed but stopping to look at wildlife along the way is the best you will ever get anywhere in the world. We know we have seen most of it. Great brief from Sebastian as to what to expect on arrival. Keys in doors,... More
