Overall good hotel; the rooms are cabins with basic beds and bathroom facilities, but everything is neat and clean. Food is not so great, but the surroundings make up for everything! Besides, Mawamba Lodge is the only hotel in Tortuguero, where you have access to the beach and you can walk to the village of Tortuguero or go searching for... More

The lodge is at a great location! In the garden you can find many birds and small iguanas. Guide: our guide had the charm of military-drill-instructor or a strict teacher. After the introduction of the activites an elderly lady had questions and the guide said: "do I have to say everything again?!?" but the guide knew a lot about the... More

Although Mawamba Lodge was the only hotel on the trip with no A/C and, in fact, no windows in the rooms (just nets), it was the most memorable one. It's surrounded by the rivers and the Caribbean sea and is a must for all nature lovers. The service was nice, food was good and the pool featured occasional frogs (who... More

rooms are very basic, but you probably don't need more when you stay in this area. We loved the design of furniture in the restaurants and bars. Nice location between the river and the ocean. The food is pretty good and the staff is very pleasant.

My granddaughter and I stayed for two nights at the fabulous Mawamba Lodge. By day we were guided through the canals and jungle, and saw howler monkeys, spider monkeys, cayman, turtles, birds, sloths, all kinds of creatures. By night we got to witness the incredible Green Turtles lay eggs, under the care and guidance of the rangers. The food was... More

This is a remote lodge that requires travel on a gravel road and then a boat to get to. Once there, you therefore will not have access to other facilities so all food and so forth is included and provided on site. The standard options include walking around the grounds, where there are butterfly and frog breeding grounds, and taking... More

We travelled to Mawamba lodge as part of a Kuoni tour. Tortuguero is like a mini Amazon. No roads and jungle reaching right up to the waters edge. Most goods and people come in via 2 hour boat trip. Taking that into consideration this lodge is quite good. The rooms are basic and dark but the beds were OK and... More

Those researching travel to Tortuguero will swiftly appreciate that it cannot compete with the luxury accommodation on offer elsewhere in Costa Rica. We opted for Mawamba Lodge despite its mixed reviews because it seemed the best of a somewhat limited bunch. Overall, it did not disappoint and I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants an authentic experience and... More

We stayed at the Mawamba Lodge as part of a tour of Costa Rica through the UK based Kuoni Travel group. Our tour group only consisted of six people and we all got on extremely well. Mawamba Lodge is set in an absolutely stunning location between one of the many canals in Tortuguero and the Caribbean sea. We arrived at... More
