The lodge offered more than we expected. Having stayed in riverside lodges in other countries we were expecting basic accommodation. The rooms were just as we expected, basic but clean and comfortable. You can relax outside you room in either a rocking chair or a hammock. However the rest of Mawamba Lodge exceeded our expectations, sitting by the swimming pool you... More

The lodge was as expected basic but clean with hot showers, there was electric all of the day. Our room had two single and one double bed the rooms the chalet was cleaned every day, there was an electric fan which help cool you down. I can't recommend this place enough. I had a wonderful time there. It is such a lovely lodge in one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. The lodge is close to the village, within walking distance. The rooms don't have tv or phone but in that location, this actually fits. It's just another world. The rooms are... More

Our guide Steven Weston was absolutely brilliant, so knowledgeable and able to answer all questions. We had a wonderful boat trip with him, a night walk, another boat trip to the village and a very thorough and interesting tour of the lodge grounds. The lodge we stayed in was as expected, pretty basic but very pleasant. Waking up to the bird... More

We stayed at the Mawamba lodge for 2 nights in February. The shuttle from San Jose was prompt, the staff were friendly, our food was very good and the area and grounds were spectacular. There was a lot of wildlife in the area, both on the hotel grounds and during the boat tours. We opted for the night jungle tour... More

This must be one of the best lodges in this area. It is set between the river on one side and the Caribbean on the other. The meals are buffet style with a good choice of well prepared and cooked food. There is a bar which serves a good range of beers, wine and cocktails at very sensible prices. Excellent... More

We were picked up in San Jose and transported to the boats after a wonderful breakfast. We were so lucky to have an amazing guide, Edgar for our time at Mawamba! Mawamba is an idelic lodge surrounded in pure nature and beauty. We enjoyed so much wildlife on our ride to the lodge, tours and our ride out of the... More

We were on a ten day Costa Rican Honeymoon arranged through Avanti Tours, a company recommended by our T.A. Since it was a tour package, we didn't question facilities as all had high Trip Advisor ratings. After arriving in San Jose, we bussed through Guapiles and then up to a point on a rather smallish river where we boarded a... More

We came to Mawamba on a 2 night package. The trip up the river to get to the lodge was one of the highlights. Anselmo, our guide for the whole stay, was excellent and extremely knowledgeable, with a good sense of humour. Our room was simple but ok as we didn't spend much time in it. There is a large... More

We had decided to stay here 3 nights instead of the classic 2-nights stay becouse we wanted to overkomen our jetlag after flying from Europe. It was not the best idea we have had on this trip. The lodge is nice, the food is ok and the staff friendly enough, but the proposed program is really cut out for a... More
