The staff at Mawamba Lodge was very accomidating, knowlegable, and friendly. Our tour guide, Steven, is a Marine Biologist but does the tours as a hobby. We were so lucky to have someone who was so knowlegable about the wildlife, and surroundings as he was. We took the night tour on a whim, it was a little more expensive that... More

Mawamba Lodge is very special. Reachable only by boat or small airplane, Mawamba is located on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica in the Tortuguero National Park. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are cute but rustic. Be prepared for no air conditioning. We loved the excellent typical Costa Rican food and fruit drinks! The highlight of... More

Mawamba Lodge is very unique. Reachable only by boat or small airplane, Mawamba is located on the East coast of Costa Rica in the Tortuguero National Park bordering the Caribbean. This area is home to the nesting Green Turtle which lays eggs between March and August each year. This was our second visit to Mawamba. In 8 yrs, the facility... More

Mawamba Lodge is located on a strip of land a stone's throw from the Tortuguero River and the Caribbean Sea (Atlantic Ocean). It is only accessible by boat. Be prepared: The rooms are better than primitive - very clean - with no air conditioning (only a ceiling fan), screens instead of windows, thin walls, a tiled shower, no phone, TV,... More

We stayed at Mawamba as part of a lage package tour, so it's hard for me to comment on the value, but this place provided an awesome experience for our whole group. The boat trips to & from the Lodge were enjoyable & our guides took care to point out howler monkeys in the trees - apparently it's a bit... More

Stayed 2 nights at this lovely lodge in November, 2011. We had a lot of rain but that's what to expect in a rainforest area. The highlights are the boat safaris on the canals of the Tortuguero National Park and the flora and fauna of the Lodge itself. The accommodation is very well appointed with spacious clean rooms. The food,... More

This lodge is set between the canal and sea with lovely views, great tropical gardens and fantastic sunsets. Travel to the lodge is either by boat or plane. The local wildlife especially birds, monkeys and sloths as well as iguanas are well worth seeing. The hotel organises 2 hr canal trips and garden walks. The nearby village is about a... More

I totally disagree with a recent negative review of Mawamba Lodge, having just returned and apparently having been there at the same time. The food is quite good, albeit Costa Rican fare, and plentiful. The rooms are charming and service excellent--true, the hot water was problematic, but it's the jungle, folks! The pool was never too busy though the lodge... More

Dear gommersdaddy, We truly thank you for your review and your positive impressions about Mawamba Lodge. I am glad to hear that all went well for you, and that the trip met your expectations. Yes, our water is heated up by a gas system, that sometimes may require a few minutes to heat up, usually no more than 2-3 minutes,... More

The nature is beautiful and breathtaking, but this resort is not a small one. You have to wait in line for food and there is never room at the pool. Tourists everywhere. All nature tours are pre-booked and always very busy. As long as you know this in advance there is no problem and you can enjoy the beauy of... More

Dear MichielMazel, First of all we would like to thank you for your visit and for your comments, all of which we dont agree to but appreciate your taking the time to share your impressions. Mawamba Lodge is definitely not a large Lodge. We have 58 rooms in total, 4 of which are standard superior rooms, and the others are... More
