The lodge was on the river edge and on the beach edge. the town was an easy walk and the lodge had so much wildlife. They had a butterfly aviary and a two places to hunt for frogs. Big Iguanas that sun right in front of the rooms, toucans in the trees and one snake in a tree out on... More

Wow . This is a great place to start your rain forest adventure . Our journey began by a two hour motor launch trip through the Tortuguero canals to our destination for two nights . We arrived to a welcome cocktail and were then given our keys to our lodges set in beautiful gardens . Each lodge has a hammock... More

This lodge can only be reached by boat and is in an excellent location between the "canals" and the Caribbean. The grounds are extensive and support a variety of wildlife including nesting birds, butterflies, iguanas and frogs. Trips on the waterways are excellent with lots of wildlife to see (Monkeys, crocodiles, caymans a boa constrictor, lizards and lots of different... More

As long as you realise that this is a lodge and not a hotel then your in for a great experience. The lodges themselves are pretty basic, but perfectly adequate. The outside balconies, with hammocks and fantastic views to the lagoon, are a major plus. Nature is literally on your door step! There are good facilities including a large swimming... More

We stayed in Mawamba for two nights. Rooms are simple, but quite comfortable, the size was sufficient for a family with two kids. Spacious terrace is shared with another room. All meals were included in the price. Food was plenty, diverse and tasty. A good choice (given the remote location) of drinks was available, for extra cost though. Staff is... More

Went for 2 days as part of a packaged tour. Of all the great experiences in Costa Rica Tortuguero was easily the stand out as it felt the most different and special. As there is no road access you have to travel by boat so unlike other national parks it has not been over developed and you feel truly isolated... More

We saw a boa, various monkeys, exotic birds, an ant eater, camen, unique butterflies and frogs, and more! The food, displays and the friendly staff made it truly an amazing experience! JUAN, our Tour Guide was so informative and approachable ...just perfecto! Our lodge, #41 was clean, lots of room, great water pressure and we will continue to send our... More

The "rooms" are cottages located on a strip of land between the ocean and the canal. It's a 15 minute walk from the village and has access to the beach. You will not find AC, TV or a fridge in the rooms but honestly, why would you expect them in a cottage in the jungle? There's officially no wifi in... More

This is very typical of the 5 similar forest lodges we've stayed in around the world. Travellers who may be less familiar with this type of accommodation should be aware in advance that they should not expect normal hotel standards. At this price level, rooms/chalets are usually basic and dining facilities tend to be communal, involving queuing for simple local... More

The place is well worth the trip. Cruise down small canals with huge jungle trees over head. Monkeys, sloths and birds galore. The grounds have views of toucans, green macaws, and the like. Lovely Pool and bar area. And great buffet meals three per day included. Wonderful setting and a short walk to the local village. Wonderful part of our... More
