We had a great stay at Mawamba Lodge on the first leg of our honeymoon. The 'transfer' was like no other I've ever been on. Other than the fact we had our luggage with us, we may as well have been on a wildlife tour. Our tour guide was great, the meals were great, the accommodation was great, we loved... More

We were greeted by the Manager, Oleman, as old friends, and that was the character of the entire stay at Mawamba. We were treated as friends after we arrived by boat, kindness of Dan Wise, the owner of the Rio Colorado Lodge at Barra del Colorado - which was a lovely trip also. We were directed to our room, which... More

Beautiful peaceful place. No air con, but didn't need it, the ceiling fan gave enough moving air to keep it cool. Rooms are clean and spacious, bed was clean and comfortable and the mosquito net on the windows kept everything out. Beach nearby was actually strewn with plastic bottles etc., so not sure why Mwamba Lodge couldn't find someone to... More

You must remember that you are in the rain forest and that all supplies must be brought in by boat or plane and then you'll realize how nice this place really is. The individual lodge rooms are clean and have their own bathrooms but lack good water pressure and temperature cotrol. The food is just OK but plentiful. The grounds... More

Being a jungle lodge the actual rooms are basic so don't expect air con, hairdryers etc but it has so much more to offer than that! The rooms are very clean and comfortable, the gardens are stunning with frog and butterfly gardens for up close photography. Wild nature is all around, in the grounds alone we saw a sloth, iguanas,... More

Dear alison38, Thank you so much for visiting Tortuguero and for that great observation about what is to be expected when visiting the area. It is wonderful that we got your 5* rating for wildlife, nature, guided experiences and in general, for a wonderful stay. Thank your for appreciating Tortuguero for what it is! For future readers or travelers based... More

We started out Costa Rica trip in Tortuguero, Mawamba lodge. We stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed our stay. The rooms are clean but small. Bathroom is neat as well. There are no glass windows in the room. No AC. But that is what we expected... If you want a deluxe hotel, don't go there. We took the optional morning... More

Dear Dolcelina, Great to know that you were here past November and much delighted to know you enjoyed it. Mawamba is definitely not a deluxe property or a resort, but a Jungle Eco Lodge with added comforts and with a high concern for nature and its related activities. Nature is always a matter of luck, it is hard to predict... More

The lodge was on the river edge and on the beach edge. the town was an easy walk and the lodge had so much wildlife. They had a butterfly aviary and a two places to hunt for frogs. Big Iguanas that sun right in front of the rooms, toucans in the trees and one snake in a tree out on... More

Wow . This is a great place to start your rain forest adventure . Our journey began by a two hour motor launch trip through the Tortuguero canals to our destination for two nights . We arrived to a welcome cocktail and were then given our keys to our lodges set in beautiful gardens . Each lodge has a hammock... More

This lodge can only be reached by boat and is in an excellent location between the "canals" and the Caribbean. The grounds are extensive and support a variety of wildlife including nesting birds, butterflies, iguanas and frogs. Trips on the waterways are excellent with lots of wildlife to see (Monkeys, crocodiles, caymans a boa constrictor, lizards and lots of different... More

As long as you realise that this is a lodge and not a hotel then your in for a great experience. The lodges themselves are pretty basic, but perfectly adequate. The outside balconies, with hammocks and fantastic views to the lagoon, are a major plus. Nature is literally on your door step! There are good facilities including a large swimming... More
