What can I say. Ann Cabezas Creed, our Vacation Planner, told us that the Mawamba Lodge - Tortuguero was the only way to start our vacation in Costa Rica and would be a trip to remember for life. She was totally correct but there was one thing that made it all happen - the moment we stepped off the small... More

Picked up in San Jose and took van-boat to get here. Humberto was tour guide and explained all about teh natural environment on the way. At the lodge we were in rustic cabin. No AC, no TV, no fan. At night it was hot as hell and about 99% humidity so didn't sleep very well. Shower had so-so hot water.... More

Had a great time in Mawamba Lodge, lovely staff. The pool and restaurant area are very clean and relaxing, the grounds are beautiful loads of wildlife, in a sensational setting!! The actual bedrooms are quite basic but you hardly spend any time in them. The tours were amazing and could not believe the wildlife we saw, highly recommend the early... More

We booked a 3 day 2 night trip with free shuttle transportation to/from San Jose in a standard room. Our tour bus had 4 languages (english, spanish, german, italian), and later we got divided into a subgroup that had only 2 languages to listen to. The wildlife in Tortuguero is amazing! The lodge property has several types of fruit trees... More

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights in March. The lodge is clean and comfortable, the food is fine, but the highlight is the abundant wildlife. The boat trip to get to Mawamba is an experience in itself! We had a fabulous guide called Stephen who was very knowledgable. He gave an excellent tour in the grounds and... More

I booked a 2 night/3 day tour from the internet which met all my expectations, other than experiencing wetter weather than I had expected. As a single traveller, I enjoyed being part of a group of 9 at mealtimes (eaten family style for each tour group) and for boat tours. The boatsmen were superb at spotting reptiles and birds whilst... We stayed at Mawamba lodge as part of our Costa Rica tour. It's a very pleasant place, clean and quite, apart from the birds. Nice butterfly houses on site. But limited on activities due to its location. But if you want to chill this is the place, nice pace of life.

I visited Mawamba Lodge as part of my tour of Costa Rica its located in the Tortuguero National park and can only be reached by boat, set deep in the rain forest, do not be surprised if its rains every day and boy when it rains it really does pour down. Hotel is situated between the canals of Tortuguero and... More
