I visited Mawamba Lodge as part of my tour of Costa Rica its located in the Tortuguero National park and can only be reached by boat, set deep in the rain forest, do not be surprised if its rains every day and boy when it rains it really does pour down. Hotel is situated between the canals of Tortuguero and... More

I will remember this place forever. I had a beautiful stay thanks to the place itself and all the activities we did trough the Mawamba Lodge. We discovered the nature with boat tours and night walks as well we relaxed in the swimming pool drinking cocktails at the bar. It is situated between the Atlantic ocean and the lagoon. You... More

At the agreed hour we were picked up at our hotel in San Jose with a small bus and brought to a place where we had to move to a bigger bus. On the way our guide Umberto explained on a light-hearted way how the program for the next few days would look like, what to expect and he gave... More

We really enjoyed our stay at Mawamba Lodge very much. Everything worked like a charm! The transfer from our hotel in San Jose, all the trips and hikes, the food...everything was perfect! We also had a very versed guide (Humberto) on our trips, who explained the whole fauna and flora so very well! One really feels that he loves his... More

Mawamba Lodge is the place to be in Tortugurero! It's comfortable and clean (although not luxurious) and has a nice friendly atmosphere, the food is delicious, the staff are attentive. The pool is clean and beautiful and there are wonderful open areas to realx in and they even have a frog habitat. It's really the perfect balance of the right... More

Let's first start out by saying if you go here you must realize that it is a lodge, literally in the middle of nowhere, not a fancy hotel. Getting there is an adventure in itself involving a 1 1/2 hour boat ride along a river and into the canals. Wildlife can be seen on the trip. The hardest part is... More

We stayed in over 7 hotels and lodges in Costa Rica so we had plenty of comparision Pro's The wildlife and you will see plenty A nice pool area Cons The beginning - a long transfer (no issue) other than a boat driver who was frankly dangerous - he spent 20 mins at a time looking at his mobile on... We had a great stay at Mawamba Lodge on the first leg of our honeymoon. The 'transfer' was like no other I've ever been on. Other than the fact we had our luggage with us, we may as well have been on a wildlife tour. Our tour guide was great, the meals were great, the accommodation was great, we loved... More

We were greeted by the Manager, Oleman, as old friends, and that was the character of the entire stay at Mawamba. We were treated as friends after we arrived by boat, kindness of Dan Wise, the owner of the Rio Colorado Lodge at Barra del Colorado - which was a lovely trip also. We were directed to our room, which... More
