Spent two nights there, rooms nice but felt like camp bunks, dimly lit, no AC, lots of screens including in the bathrooms so if you wind up by noisy neighbors could be problematic. GREAT hammocks on the porches. Food was good and plentiful in open air dining. Check out the butterfly farm on the premises, the resident giant iguanas, and... More

Sadly it was by far my least favourite stay on our visit to Costa Rica and awfully confusing. From what I remember when I scoured the website, after it being included in our entire holiday package, was it was some kind of package but it was not clarified anywhere I found what this was or what seemed to be included... As a first introduction to Costa Rica, staying at Mawamba Lodge for a few nights was ideal. The hotel is in beautiful surroundings. The tours are excellent and the staff are very helpful. We had Jacqueline as our guide and she was wonderful: very knowledgeable, great with children and very funny. You can sense immediately that Jacqueline loves her job... More

Mawamba Lodge is placed in a unique ecological environment. Even the part of traveling with the boat to the lodge is great. We were very lucky to have Steven Weston as our guide. He's a walking encyclopedia with an enormous passion for his Costa Rica. Take as much tours as you can because everyone will reveal something new. The park... More

We had a lovely family time here, enjoying the wonderful pool area and the boat tours of the canals...we saw a lot of birds, iguanas, butterflies and more here. The best was our turtle watching experience in the night, from the lodge. We did this with a local guide and observed a lovely majestic turtle laying her eggs. The hotel... More

We had a fantastic time at Mawamba Lodge. The grounds were stunning, the tours excellent and the staff very helpful. Our guide Jacqueline was an absolute delight, warm, funny and exceedingly knowledgeable. The food was nice and varied and Abraham behind the bar can mix a mean cocktail! It's a lodge with an emphasis on eco-sustainability so there are no... More

The lodge is in a remote area. You have to take an hour or so boat ride there. Beutiful flowers/ plants and wild life. We did not do the turtle tours. We did the nature walk and boat tour which were very nice. Frank our guide was very nice and full of knowledge. Very organized activites. Food was great. 3... More

If you want to watch turtles laying eggs on the beach in Tortuguero, this is a good place. Very well organised and some tours included. They offer a full board package. Be aware you will be placed in a group, if you like it or not, including a guide. We were lucky with the group and guide (Humberto), who helped... More

We began our 2 week vacation in Costa Rica with 3 days at Mawambe Lodge - what a privilege to get this introduction to the country. The tour guide Frank Simms picked us up on time from our hotel, took us on the 3 hours journey to Mawamba by bus through the mountains, a stop for a great breakfast (use... More

We stayed at Mawamba with our kids in the 'green season'. I have to admit: we were extremely unlucky with 36 hours of pouring rain ruining the two boat tours of our package. The hotel is luxury on a budget, so if you can afford it, you may want to consider an upscale resort. That or a smaller lodge, that... More
