We had a first floor balcony room with hammock. This provided added privacy as no-one had to walk past the room. The howler monkeys woke us up in the morning which was lovely but they are very loud! The room was very comfortable and having no air conditioning was not a problem. We had a short walk to the restaurant... More

Highlight of the holiday is quite a compliment! Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at the lodge here on Trip Advisor. It’s great to hear that you enjoyed the lodge, your corner room and walks on the private nature trails at the lodge. I’m sorry that you found the breakfast to be average. I hope you... More

After an overnight in San Jose, we were picked up by Costa Rica Expeditions and transported to Tortuga Lodge for three nights. Despite the weather (LOTS of rain and winds) it exceeded all of our expectations. All of the staff were fantastic, helpful and knowledgeable. The accommodations were clean, comfortable, lovely and exactly as advertised. The wildlife tour in the... More

You mentioned that the Words Adventure was the highlight of your stay in Costa Rica! The Words Adventure is a program developed by owners of Tortuga Lodge, Michael and Yolanda Kaye. For children in Costa Rica nothing beyond the Three R's in their own language is as valuable for them to learn as English. Young adults with a working knowledge... More

This was our first stop on our first trip to Costa Rica. We used Costa Rica Expeditions to plan our trip which was an excellent decision. Torguga Lodge and Gardens knows how do it! First of all, the personnel, is fantastic. We were met at our plane with a friendly welcome. It just got better from there. This type of... More

The hotel experience was very nice, everything was good except certain things which could be improved: - The beds are described as big (king-size). We encountered two small double beds, upon our request we received two single beds, which was very kind of the staff (they got it fixed immediately). I just didn't like the fact I had to be... More

This was our second visit to Tortuga Lodge, in under a year, staying for an unprecedented 14 nights and it certainly won’t be our last. We are well travelled and this is our favourite location in the world. Why….? The whole area which incorporates Tortuguero National Park is incredibly beautiful and tranquil. The place to be and packed with a... More

Tortuga Lodge is a beautifully designed and appointed eco-lodge on the Tortuguero river. The little touches are done really well here - ice-cold flannels upon arrival and at mealtimes, welcome drinks, free coffee and cake in the afternoon and great complimentary tours (Norton was our great guide for a half hour tour of the gardens and found us Howler Monkey,... What a lovely review, thank you for taking the time to share your experiences with people considering us for a stay. You’re right about our Naturalist Guide’s spotting ability, it’s really uncanny. For us mortals, we highly recommend you bring binoculars, (8x42) recommended, 7x32 minimum. Getting a closer look at wildlife is really rewarding. Of the many things you wrote,... More

This was one of the most unique places we have ever stayed. I cannot say enough about the gracious workers, and the splendid, peaceful feeling this facility gave me. Food was great, but nothing beat waking up to the monkeys and swimming a few feet from the river, in a cooling pool. I wish I could go back again.

Tortuga Lodge is unique and you’ve mentioned many of the highlights, gracious workers, peaceful feeling, great food, waking to the bark of howler monkeys and swimming a few feet from the Tortuguero River in a non-chlorinated pool. It sounds like you were the ideal guest for the lodge, a perfect fit! Please do come and see us again. Since you... More
