My family stayed here 3 nights in July and it was the best part of our trip. Everything was fantastic, from the moment we were met upon arrival by boat, to the accomodations, the staff, the tours... absolutely everything! The lodge sits on the river, near the sea and the first night we had a storm with lightening, thunder, winds... More

It is important to know that there is no air conditioning, but that is part of the experience. We felt as one with nature, and the rooms were amazing. Angelo and Bernardo were our favorite guides. We loved the Howler monkeys, 5am and 5pm on the dot, and the rest of the wild creatures were close by and at ease... More

Dear Karen P, It sounds like you were a perfect fit for the lodge! I’m delighted to hear that you had such a good time with Angelo and Bernardo and that you enjoyed the Howler Monkey barks, the wildlife, boat trips into the park and the night walk in our private reserve. You’re right about the lack of AC, we... More

Fantastic lodge for a visit to the Tortuguero rain forrest. It starts up on arrival with a friendly reception by the staff and a short guided tour. Rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. The view on the river is splendid, There's also a nice swimming pool. The excursions organised by the hotel are to be recommended (although not cheap compared... More

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at the lodge here on Trip Advisor. We are delighted to hear that you had a “fantastic” time. For people considering us as their home base while in Tortuguero, this guest is right; our tours do cost more than tours that you can buy in town. When making the decision... More

The staff, from servers to guides and hotel staff were all very welcoming. Their expertise in their field contributed to a marvellous experience for my husband and I. The grounds are immaculate and the gardens and trails are a great way to experience rainforest life. A huge thank you to everyone there for making our experience a positive one. It... More

This hotel is amazing. The staff is extremely friendly! We did the turtle nesting tour with Angelo and the nature boat trip tour with Willis and they were both great. Edgar was an awesome bartender and Priscilla (front desk) was very friendly. Keep in mind that this is a rustic experience, there is no air conditioning anywhere in the hotel

Dear Boricua1, Thanks for the review! That’s great to read you had good adventures with Angelo and Willis, they’re both highly skilled local guides that we’re very pleased to have with us. For the reader, the boat tour Boricua1 mentions is a wildlife spotting trip through the canals of Tortuguero National Park. The Park: Originally intended to protect a major... More

Tortuga Lodge is a secluded hotel located on the Tortuguero River and close to the Caribbean. Our stay at Tortuga Lodge was the highlight of our visit to Costa Rica. We loved our room, and we did not miss air conditioning, telephones or big-screen TV. The whole point of being there is to get away from those things. The food... More

Dear AniJoh, Thanks for the great review! We obviously agree with you about the great advantage of leaving air conditioning, phones and televisions out of the room design. I hope you enjoyed falling asleep and waking up to the sounds of the tropical rainforest. Given the time of year, I’m betting at least once or twice you listened to a... More

We are currently on a two week family trip to tour Costa Rica. First stop: Tortugeuro. After extensive research, we opted to fly round trip from San Jose to Tortugeuro on Nature Air. Enjoyable and uneventful...and this from a lady who has issues with motion. but pack light - the planes are small. And if you have heavy luggage, ground... More

Dear Skidamerink, Thank you for the review. It’s great to see that Tortuga Lodge served as the starting out point for your trip, and that the result was an enjoyable stay. I agree wholeheartedly with your description of the Lodge and what makes it stand out in a remote location like Tortuguero. We like to describe the ambience as “Rustic... More

We stayed one night but enjoyed every minute. The staff were a delight, so friendly and warm. The room was very comfortable and peaceful. The wifi was free and worked very well. The activities were reasonably priced and convenient. Thank you for a great stay!

Dear Bridget T, Thank you for the review – I’m glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Given Tortuga Lodge’s remote location, the number of ways to see the national park, and the simple fact that Tortuguero is a place unlike any other, we recommend spending 3 to 5 nights with us. But if 1 night is all you could... More

This was probably the highlight of our honeymoon trip. The staff and the people in this hotel are truly amazing and will do whatever it takes to make you happy. Don't miss it and pay the extra cash to stay here. It's a mind-blowing experience. The suite was perfect and the restaurant is really good as well.

I don't think it's possible to imagine a more romantic, beautiful lodge. Staying here is an experience, and it was the absolute highlight of our time in Costa Rica.
