A small hotel with great friendly service. Wildlife on the grounds, beautiful, tranquil setting. Tucans & howler monkeys provide morning wake-up calls. Boat transportation to Tortuguero National Park and turtle watching.

This lodge was staffed by pleasant personnel (Eduardo, Vivianna and the wait staff) and knowledgeable guides (Norton and Willis). We arrived by plane into Tortugero ($40 - Nature Air - 30 min flight from San Jose to Tortuguero) and departed by boat (local boat to LaPavona then buses to Cariari and on to San Jose - about $6 trip using... My husband and I went to Costa Rica for our (6 month delayed) honeymoon and this was our first stop. We should have just stayed here. It's not that we didn't enjoy our trip afterwards, it's just that Arenal (no show in the fog volcano) and wrapping up on the beachy side of things paled in comparison to this amazing... More

Dear greenjilly, You are welcomed back anytime you like. I will let Norton know you were crossing your fingers to have him as your tour guide. What an honor. He really does do a great job and we have had great reviews about the job he does. Commonly known as “Putut” Norton began working for Costa Rica Expeditions in 2005.... More

The staff shows up at the docks to greet you with a cold drink -- very nice. Viviana gave us the introduction and took us to our rooms. She is really sweet and has a great big beautiful smile! We immediately hit the really very nice pool. Later on we did the turtle nesting tour with Willis. We loved him... More

Dear Geena, Your review brought a smile to my face. You seemed to really have enjoyed every aspect of your stay with us. I am sorry you got blisters while wearing the boots we provide for the hikes. They are a necessary evil since they really do help when you are treading over wet sand at night. It’s part of... More

We stayed @ Tortuga Lodge & Gardens on the 10th of september 2014. We arrived ( like everyone ) by river. The staff immediately went to the docks to welcome us. We felt really welcome. Two strongs men carried our luggage. We were lead to the reception. There we got a good introduction with a nicely tasting juice. We were... More

Dear ChrisVC76, What a great review you wrote and it’s wonderful that you appreciated our lodge so much. I am glad you noticed that for breakfast we try to keep things interesting by allowing our guests to decide what they would like to have. We always start them off with a plate of fruit, bread with butter and a bowl... More

My boyfriend and I booked tortuga lodge as the last place we stayed on our three week holiday and took advantage of the 4 for 3 night offer. We were not disappointed. The service was impeccable and there were a couple of members of staff who were very friendly indeed. Unfortunately we don't have names but the receptionist, one of... More

This hotel/ lodge is a nice place to stay for peace and quiet- the pool is nice and the rooms are average. Seeing as there are no windows, there is a lot of noise! The hotel should offer more shuttles as it feels like you are stuck there and the hours of the shuttles force you to eat the meals... More

Dear Tal B, When I read your review saying that you thought our staff was cold I became concerned. I spoke with the lodge manager, Julian Fallas, and he explained that we had a communication breakdown with your reservation. The result was that you expected a River View Upstairs Balcony Rooms and we confirmed a River View Downstairs Terrace Rooms.... More

My husband and I stayed in five different hotels all over Costa Rica for our honeymoon. This was by far our favorite hotel! It was secluded and extremely unique. The staff here were incredibly helpful and friendly from the moment we arrived until the moment we left and we were sad to leave this spot. It was nice to have... More

I am glad that you enjoyed both ways of getting to our lodge. Though the plane ride is definitely much faster way of reaching... More

It's our First visit to Costa Rica. We ere travelling around for 3 weeks and were spending our last days at Tortuga Lodgae and Gardens. Pros: Lovely landscaping, perfect temperature eternity pool, friendly staff, nice view of the river from the pool and restaurant. Perfect for couples, families or groups, tasty food and wonderful, well marked paths behind the lodge. I especially liked that they provided rubber boots and rain jackets for the paths. We saw several red frogs, monkeys and an iguana. They start... More

Dear kimmerCalifornia, It’s great to be remembered as being “perfect for couples, families or groups, tasty food and wonderful, well-marked paths behind the lodge”.
