We stayed at Tortuga Lodge for the first three days (two nights) of our recent honeymoon. We initially arrived by boat and were welcomed by three staff members waving to us from the dock and presented with complementary fresh fruit juice. After checking in, we were shown around the property and eventually shown to our room, where our luggage was... More

We (only) stayed one night here, in an upstairs room. The room itself was quite dark, darker than I expected, but surely big enough and clean. We liked the hammock on the balcony. The gardens are beautiful. The eternity pool was nice and we liked the lights around the pool that create a cosy atmosphere after sunset. The garden has... More

Dear milkie87, Thank you for calling us a nice place to stay. I am sorry that you were only able to stay with us for one night. We would have loved more time to show you what we are all about. Still I am glad that you got the chance to visit the trails behind the lodge and spotted lots... More

If you are planning to visit Tortuegero for the local wildlife you would find the local Dr. Dolittle at the Tortuga Lodge. Anjelo, the lodge's nature guide is a true wildlife wizard. Walking through the rainforest, boating the river and canals or touring the beach for turtles, Anjelo will spot and direct you to birds (including Toucans), monkeys, sloths, snakes,... More

Dear Burshtine, Your comparison of Anjelo to Dr. Dolittle made me laugh out loud. You nailed it with such a comparison. Angelo is originally from Tortuguero so we think that knowledge has come in handy since he is showing you his back yard. He has worked with us for more than 10 years and he strives to lead his experiences... More

Stayed for 2 nights as a family of 4 (kids aged 6 and 4) late Sept in one of their regular lower rooms. Here's what stood out for us: - From their website's photos (especially the upper regular room interior) it seems like it is all shiny, varnished wood, etc (or at least that's the image that stuck with me).... I have passed your suggestions to purchase more lounge chairs for the pool area to the Lodge Manager. I... More

Everything about the visit was sensational. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Took care of every little detail. The food was delicious but there was too much. (You can ask for smaller portions, I found out when leaving) We could not have been happier with the trip. Willis was our guide in the park and in the town. He... More

A small hotel with great friendly service. Wildlife on the grounds, beautiful, tranquil setting. Tucans & howler monkeys provide morning wake-up calls. Boat transportation to Tortuguero National Park and turtle watching.

Dear Suzannesantafe2014, I will let our staff know that you mentioned them to be friendly. Tortuguero is a very distinctive area since the river, the wildlife and the great setting make up a wonderful mix that translates into just that: tranquility. There is nothing better than waking up to the sound of the howler monkeys which remind our guests of... More

This lodge was staffed by pleasant personnel (Eduardo, Vivianna and the wait staff) and knowledgeable guides (Norton and Willis). We arrived by plane into Tortugero ($40 - Nature Air - 30 min flight from San Jose to Tortuguero) and departed by boat (local boat to LaPavona then buses to Cariari and on to San Jose - about $6 trip using... My husband and I went to Costa Rica for our (6 month delayed) honeymoon and this was our first stop. We should have just stayed here. It's not that we didn't enjoy our trip afterwards, it's just that Arenal (no show in the fog volcano) and wrapping up on the beachy side of things paled in comparison to this amazing... More

The staff shows up at the docks to greet you with a cold drink -- very nice. Viviana gave us the introduction and took us to our rooms. She is really sweet and has a great big beautiful smile! We stayed @ Tortuga Lodge & Gardens on the 10th of september 2014. We arrived ( like everyone ) by river. The staff immediately went to the docks to welcome us. We felt really welcome.
