This resort was very beautiful and relaxing it is remote either you take a plane and then a boat or a shuttle and a boat. The rooms are great and there are so many animals to see. The employees are outstanding and will go out of there way to make sure everything is perfect. They have asmall pool and the... More

We spent two nights at Tortuga Lodge. It is really wonderful and even more. The location is right on the river accessible by boat (or small airplane + boat), and place is extremely beautiful. All rooms have great views. The service is perfect, and the staff is super friendly. The food was awesome. The rooms are nice and comfortable. And... More

I just returned from an amazing trip to Costa Rica. We started our jouney at the Tortuga Lodge we arrived approx an hour later then the last public boat transportation and it was dark. The lodge sent a boat to pick us up (at our expense) but that was ok. The rooms are basic but they are immaculately clean, you... More

National Geographic Costa Rica Adventure brought me to Tortuga Lodge. The most wonderful thing about the lodge is the staff. The accommodations were clean and comfortable. Dining on the river was beautiful. We flew in to the nearby airstrip and a boat from the lodge took us across the river. Our Nat Geo guides, and Willis the boat captain, spotted... More

When you arrive at Tortuga Lodge you are met with a cold towel and welcome drink. There are no check-in formalities. You just sit down and reception tell you about the arrangements for your stay. Much nicer than filling in forms at a counter. The food is great - tasty and interesting with friendly service. We went on a couple... More

Dear Arthur M, We are delighted to hear how much you enjoyed your stay at Tortuga Lodge & Gardens. Thank you for recommending powerful binoculars for future guests, powerful camera equipment too! For Binoculars (8x42) recommended, 7x32 minimum. Getting a closer look at wildlife is really rewarding, we highly recommend you bring these. The question of camera equipment is a... More

To reach the lodge, you have a choice of taking a public motorboat from a boat slip at a speck on the map called La Pavona or taking a plane to the airstrip. We took the boat. We paid a couple of dollars, trudged through the mud with our suitcases (it was low tide), hopped on the boat and went... More

This Costa Rica Expeditions property is lovely, well-appointed, well-staffed; Dining was delightful. Room was clean and adequate, grounds were fun to explore. Staff was accommodating. Water taxi available to airstrip and the small nearby town. The place was an experience in itself!

We went in by air, all arranged by the wonderful Costa Rica Expeditions people. The lodge was enchanting; staff were cheerful, helpful, knowledgeable, and the guides unbelievably so. The gardens and walks around the lodge are stunning. Probably best not go during the US school holidays, but even that did not detract from the experience!

Dear SBla2015, I'm delighted to hear that you had such a wonderful time at Tortuga Lodge and with Costa Rica Expeditions. I agree with you that flying to Tortuguero is a great option. There are not roads to Tortuguero, so you can't drive. The only ways to get there are by domestic or charter flight, which is a 30 minute... More

Our family of 6, with children ages 11 through 17, thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Tortuga. I have a picture of three of my daughters sitting near their luggage the morning we were leaving looking so sad! We stayed in Costa Rica for 10 days, splitting our time between Tortuga and the JW Marriott beach resort in Guanacaste. Tortuga was... More

Dear b4hanna, You Highlighted The Words Adventure and your experience helping local children learn English. For those considering a visit to Tortuga Lodge, a little background: For children in Costa Rica nothing beyond the Three R's in their own language is as valuable for them to learn as English. Young adults with a working knowledge of English have vastly more... More

On the way to the Lodge, by exorbitant private water-taxi, the heavens opened ( again !) we and the luggage got soaked, the engine shuddered to a halt, and the only consolation was the thought that crocodiles wouldn't be stupid enough to be out in this weather ! I said to my husband,' On a scale of one to ten,... More
