We loved our stay at Tortuga Lodge & Gardens. From the greeting we received to the room and the service, all were wonderful. The food was also very good. We went with the recommended options for lunch and were very pleased.

So quick review of the hotel. Service was generally great and personalized. The hotel is small and you can tell. This is great as it allows for more one on one service. We booked our transfer to the hotel from hotel and that was fairly easy as well. The food wasn't a great value and we were glad we didn't... More

Dear Heat4213, Thank you for your review of Tortuga Lodge & Gardens. We think one of our strengths is that we are a small hotel, only 27 rooms, and that allows us to dedicate more time to each guest, offering one on one service. One of the benefits of having fewer people at the lodge, even when we’re at full... More

We stayed in the Junior Suite which had a king bed and a full. It also had a sofa bed that we were planning on using, but when we opened it up we discovered that it was filthy and a bug even crawled out of the mattress. We quickly folded it back up and squeezed the two of us (ages... More

Dear TravelinGrasshoppers, I’m glad to hear that your experience at Tortuga Lodge & Gardens was a good start to your Costa Rica vacation. I was really concerned when I read that the sofa bed was dirty and that a bug crawled out when you opened it. I wish you had let us know, our staff would have been embarrassed and... More

Loved this hotel. Super nice staff and a beautiful setting. It was incredible to go to sleep at night and wake-up listening to the sounds of the jungle right outside your screened windows. The included excursions are awesome and the staff was so helpful and knowledgeable. I contacted the hotel via the website about possibly staying at the hotel and... More

I can't imagine a better place to stay for a trip to Tortuguero. We splurged on the penthouse (I think it was room 27) and loved the room (very high quality -- 3 large beds, a sitting area, and two bathrooms) and the porch, which was just perfect. Even when it was pouring rain (often -- and always at night)... More

Dear BostonTravellingMom, Thank you for calling our lodge “the best place to stay in Tortuguero”. It was great that you had the option of staying in our penthouse. Not only does it offer the natural wood high ceiling and natural wood floors but the river view front balcony with the hammocks and wicker furniture is an added plus for those... More

I have been to Tortuguero twice before, but never stayed at Tortuga Lodge. I was very impressed with the location and the staff. My main reason for going here was to show my family the wildlife that is in this area. We were not disappointed. Our guides from the lodge were excellent. We also enjoyed dining riverside and the rooms... More

Dear maryc, How great to know that you will be booking with us once again. We are looking forward to it! I was glad to read that you enjoyed plenty of wildlife sightings. The river journey from La Paviona to Tortuguera in torrential rain was an exciting introduction to Tortuguera. The lodge is one of the furthest from the village - a 5 or 10 minute boat ride - but once you get there it is a spectacular spot situated right on the waters edge. Our room was roomy and airy and the... More

Dear welshbelle, Your description of your room, the sounds of the forest and the rain while you were in Tortuguero made me smile. The Tortuga Lodge and Gardens is an excellent choice of accommodation for anyone looking for a comfortable, welcoming, value-for-money stay in Tortuguero. Even though it was the rainy reason, it could not put a damper on our trip and stay as the staff at the Tortuga Lodge and Gardens brightened it up with their helpful attitudes. My husband and I recently traveled to Costa Rica with our granddaughter. We were fortunate to have included Torguga Lodge and Gardens in our itinerary. It is very close to the Tortuguero National Park, one of the last large tropical rain forests in Central America. Our guide, Juan, took us on a turtle expedition late at night and spotted turtle... Dear QR365, Thank you for your great post about our lodge. I will let Juan know how much you enjoyed the Turtle Nesting tour you had with him. It also amazes me how they are able to spot a turtle in the darkness. After doing this for so long they really do become experts at their field. I cannot tell... More

This is an area that is not easily accessible; however, I would not miss it as a part of visiting Costa Rica. We came in by boat and left by plane. Flying is much more convenient, but I decided to come by van since we arrived in San Jose at noon and wouldn't be able to catch the plane until... More

Dear pam5959, Thank you for spending some time at our lodge and for saying that “This is an area that is not easily accessible; however, I would not miss it as a part of visiting Costa Rica” Tortuguero is definately a remote area, but that’s its main charm and getting there is half the fun. We offer our guests the... More
