The staff, accommodations and food were all great. Not what you'd expect in the middle of a rain forest and in a somewhat primitive area. The area offers an experience like no other. It was easy to spot toucans on the lodge grounds, as well as what I think were the resident giant iguanas. We were part of a tour... More

Tortuga Lodge is an amazing experience. Fabulous flora and fauna, impeccable service, great food, beautiful grounds.Suggest going in May- despite lots of rain, the lodge is relatively empty and the service is personal. Loved loved loved this lodge-- it is calm and peaceful like the 'rivers' that are the heart of Tortuguera. Thanks Kathleen, Eduardo, Edgar and all the staff... More

This guest mentions that May is a good time to visit the lodge because there are fewer guests and the service is more personalized that usual. And it’s true, our service is always personal, because we only have 27 rooms, but when there are fewer guests the ratio of staff to guests is higher and we can take even better... More

This was our first proper stop in Costa Rica for our honeymoon and we were blown away by it. The surrounding area is beautiful and rich with wildlife as are the gardens themselves. We felt like we knew everyone and were part of the place within a few hours, totally relaxing. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, they... More

This resort can only be reached by air or van/boat. We opted for the van/boat and enjoyed a lovely drive through San Jose, up into the cloud forest and down through the countryside to a small river outlet where we were taken by boat through the rainforest to the Tortuga Lodge. Our drivers on the boat slowed and pulled over... More

We are delighted to hear that you wished you had stayed longer! That is one of the highest compliments you could give us. We recommend 3-5 nights, this gives you time to do as many activities as you want and also to clock some serious time in a hammock. The Howler monkey barks that this guest is mentioning belong to... I arrived in Tortuga Lodge with the Chartered flight arranged by Costa Rica Expeditions. They are on time and most of the staff know me by my first name! From the flight, the boat waited for me and dropped me to other side of the river which is the Tortuga Lodge - I was welcome by Juan (the manager) and... More

There are only two ways to get to Tortuguero, you can do a combination of a 3 hour drive followed by a 1.5 hour boat ride or you can fly 30 minutes. I encourage guests to fly in one direction and boat and bus in the other. How you do this depends a lot on what you are doing before... More

On our first trip to Costa Rica; we found the people to be friendly, helpful and justifiably proud of their delightful country. The Lodge and Gardens are beautiful and integrated into the surrounding rain forest. Overlooking the river, screened windows in the bedrooms kept out the insects but allowed us to feel like we were in the jungle. Waking up... More

After we landed on the small air strip we crossed the river to the hotel and we were welcomed with a fresh fruit drink and an icy cold refreshing towel. The reception girls are very welcoming as they explain the details of your stay in the Lodge. The reception girls Carmen and Pricilla are knoweledeble and so eager to help... More

This is a lovely Lodge just on the fringe of the Tortuguero National Forest. The staff were very eager to please us and make us feel welcome. The food served was outstanding. I have visited many national parks in the US and never received the hospitality and food that I received at this place. The howler monkeys that woke us... More

The Howler monkey barks that this guest is mentioning belong to the Manteled howler, 3 of the 4 species of monkeys that occur in Costa Rica are found in Tortuguero, the Manteled howler and the Spider Monkey and the White Faced capuchin are seen here. We stayed here for 4 nights and were sad to leave. The staff were amazing and helped us practise our Spanish every chance they could. You fly to Tortuguero then take a short boat ride across a river to arrive at the lodge, where you are met by staff offering a cold towel and a refeshing, cold fruit drink! The hotel is unique, comfortable and there are hammocks in which you can simply relax and listen to the jungle sounds. There's also a nice pool.... More
