This was the first stop on our honeymoon and we had an absolutely wonderful time. As a note, the Tortuguero airport is currently closed for repair and you have to get there via Barra del Colorado if you decide to fly there. It was about an half hour boat road which was actually enjoyable. Anyway, once we got there in... more

We visited the Tortugero Lodge on the tail end of our Costa Rica trip. Costa Rica Expeditions runs the lodge and from what I gather, does several well organized trips / tours involving their hotel / lodges. Costa Rica Expeditions picked us up at our hotel on time in a clean, newish van. Getting to the lodge involved driving for... more

We loved this hotel and the area of Tortuguero with its caribbean feel. The landscapes of Tortuguero are really different to the rest of Costa Rica with the "manglares". The rides with the boats are great! People say this is a very turistic area and avoid it, but we would really recommend it. In the hotel there was a very... more

I'd wanted to visit Tortuguero in Costa Rica for a while now during the Sea Turtle nesting season and I finally got to do it during the Labor Day holiday. Costa Rica Expeditions, the company that also owns the Lodge, provided an excellent service and arranged all the details of transportation and stay. The guides, drivers, pilots were all great,... more

Beautiful Lodge (we stayed in an upgraded room) No television, no radio.... perfect. No air conditioning, but it was very comfortable for sleeping (it actually was rather cool on the nights we were there, and this was in June). Excellent food... more than excellent... some of the best meals I have had anywhere... just remarkably good. This is a quiet,... more

We stayed at Tortuga Lodge for a couple of nights on our honeymoon, taking the option of upgrading to the Penthouse for $67 per night. Given how similar the various lodges in Tortuguero appear when you read the reviews, we wanted to emphasise how much we enjoyed our stay at Tortuga lodge. Booking was easy - through the Costa Rica... more

The penthouse took up the entire upper floor of a building that also housed two rooms on the ground floor. It was wonderful and provided absolute comfort, silence, and privacy while we stayed there. I highly recommend spending the extra money for it. The grounds are beautiful and we saw a sloth, caiman, bats, and monkeys right on the grounds.... more

Wonderful service - All staff were extremely hospitable, the food was delicious and well presented. Meal times had a romantic atmosphere. The rooms are wooden construction with no sound proofing or window glazing (only mesh) - completely natural and appropriate to the environment. It also allows a breeze to circulate and you can clearly hear animal and bird sounds from... more

We chose to visit Tortuguero as part of a longer, cross country tour so we were looking for an option that provided us with the highlights in a short amount of time. After reading reviews on this website and in some travel books, we decided that the Tortuga Lodge was the best option. It is managed by Costa Rica Expeditions... more

If you want to experience tropical forest, Caribbean fishing and turtle nesting, this is the place to stay. We took the chartered plane into Tortuga Lodge which took us about 30 minutes. The rooms are clean and even though we missed the air-conditioning, the hammock and rocking chair over looking the canal with coconut trees out side our room for... more
