We stayed here on the Jungle Expedition offer as part of our tour around Costa Rica. This lodge appeared smaller than most of the others around and we were very happy with our choice. The rooms were very comfortable and exceeded what we had expected for a remote spot. It is important to know that there are screens instead of... More

What an incredible place. Beautiful setting, the rainforest right behind you. Just walk through the beautiful garden straight into the rainforest. Woken by howler monkey's every morning and seeing the resident iguanas around the pool was such a delight. The staff cannot do enough for you.fantastic!!!

Dear denise b, Glad to see that you enjoyed our lodge so much. The howler monkeys are our signature alarm clock for our early morning tours and they help our guests remember where they are since the moment they awake. Thank you for calling us an incredible place with a staff that cannot do enough for you. It’s quite a... More

Given where you are (remote area of Costa Rica), this is probably the best place to stay. The beds were comfortable, there are fans, and the friendly staff go out of the way to make sure you have a great time. It's also the most convenient lodge for those flying into the Tortuguero area. Just let them know when you'll... More

The Tortuga Lodge & Gardens is located right across the river from the airstrip so we will glady head on over and come pick you up when you arrive. Flying to... More

My husband and I stayed at Tortuga Lodge as our first stop in Costa Rica. I can say without exception that this was an incredible, magical place. The staff gave us top quality, personal attention throughout our stay and the tours were first rate. From our 4:30 am (!!!) sunrise tour to look for nesting turtles (we saw two moms... More

• Stayed October 2014, traveled as a couple Dear AprilSalter, Thank you for calling our lodge a “magical place”. I guess is the remote location combined with the great service and wonderful staff that just makes it a bit magical. On top of that, having guests like you celebrate their honeymoon makes your stay with us even more special. I... More

This was by far the highlight of our Costa Rican vacation. The hospitality from the time of our pick up in San Jose to the return was never ending. My husband mentioned to our server at lunch that we were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. We were surprised that evening with a candlelight dinner. The next morning we found origami... More

Dear Ghahate It’s wonderful to read that you had such a great stay at our lodge and that our staff was able to make your 25th wedding anniversary such a memorable one. The swans you mentioned finding in your room and the heart shaped petals are those little touches that our staff at the lodge love to give our guests.... More

We stayed at Tortuga Lodge for the first three days (two nights) of our recent honeymoon. We initially arrived by boat and were welcomed by three staff members waving to us from the dock and presented with complementary fresh fruit juice. After checking in, we were shown around the property and eventually shown to our room, where our luggage was... More

We (only) stayed one night here, in an upstairs room. The room itself was quite dark, darker than I expected, but surely big enough and clean. We liked the hammock on the balcony. The gardens are beautiful. The eternity pool was nice and we liked the lights around the pool that create a cosy atmosphere after sunset. The garden has... More

If you are planning to visit Tortuegero for the local wildlife you would find the local Dr. Dolittle at the Tortuga Lodge. Anjelo, the lodge's nature guide is a true wildlife wizard. Walking through the rainforest, boating the river and canals or touring the beach for turtles, Anjelo will spot and direct you to birds (including Toucans), monkeys, sloths, snakes,... More

Dear Burshtine, Your comparison of Anjelo to Dr. Dolittle made me laugh out loud. You nailed it with such a comparison. Angelo is originally from Tortuguero so we think that knowledge has come in handy since he is showing you his back yard. He has worked with us for more than 10 years and he strives to lead his experiences... More

Stayed for 2 nights as a family of 4 (kids aged 6 and 4) late Sept in one of their regular lower rooms. Here's what stood out for us: - From their website's photos (especially the upper regular room interior) it seems like it is all shiny, varnished wood, etc (or at least that's the image that stuck with me).... Everything about the visit was sensational. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Took care of every little detail. The food was delicious but there was too much.
