I'm writing this review from a lounge chair near the pool as my 10yr old plays with other children. It's just after 5:30 here, my family and have been quite happy with our experience here! The staff is kind and friendly, the facilities are as depicted on the website, and yes the jungle animals make a fair amount of noise.... More

This must be the best lodge in this park. It is fairly small, the staff are superb, and the design just right. If I was scoring out of 100 this place would get 99, just because I don't think anywhere is perfect or I would stop travelling and live there. How crazy is it in a tourist place to find... More

I’m delighted to hear how much you enjoyed the service at Tortuga Lodge & Gardens. We think that the reason our staff is so good is that our mission statements, which we dedicate a lot of time to, are very clear and easy to understand. Legendary Service & Unforgettable Memories Vacation Time is Precious We are fanatical about what is... More

We traveled around Costa Rica for 2 weeks, staying in 7 different hotels and I would rate our experience at Tortuga comfortably 7th out of 7. Notice I mention experience and not the hotel itself, though the two are, of course, interlinked. There is no one thing I can pin-point as being particularly bad (and that's why I still give it... I couldn’t agree more with this person, when you decide to book a hotel be sure to do your research before committing and figure out where you are going and whether or not the place you are considering is a good fit. Clearly we were not a good fit with this guest. This person didn’t have a problem with driving... More

Don't miss this unique eco lodge located in the heart of the rain forest. All the Staff was wonderful including the knowledgable naturalist Fernando. We enjoyed a visit to the nearby town, the naturalist boat tour, incredible coffee, relaxing in the pool, and watching the abundant bird and animal life. The flight from San Jose and the short boat ride... More

Eco lodge located in the heart of the rainforest is a great way to put an experience at Tortuga Lodge & Gardens. It sounds like you were a perfect fit! Thank you for sharing that you too enjoyed Fernando’s guiding as well as a visit to town, the naturalist boat tour, incredible coffee, relaxing in the pool, and watching the... More

We felt like we were at a jungle version of summer camp, only with all the comforts of a lovely, small resort. It makes it hard to return home, where no one meets me with a cold glass of fresh fruit juice. No A/C was no problem for us. Toucans, howler monkeys and torgens right behind our building made for... I’m delighted to hear that our Naturalist Guide, Fernando Estrada, was your guide for your early bird walk in the gardens. Fernando, best known as "Don," was born on May 30, 1954, in Bluefields, Nicaragua. He is one of 13 siblings. As a child and young man in Bluefields, he had seen the Puerto Cabezas Indians come to town to... More

We stayed in Tortuga Lodge during the month of February and really enjoyed every moment. The place is magic and very authentic. The rooms are beautiful and the fact that the windows have no glass but are covered with a mosquito net makes you feel being very close to nature. Birds and monkeys wake you up early in the morning... More

I am so glad that you mentioned that the windows at the lodge don’t have glass, they have screens instead. You captured the essence of it perfectly; the idea is to get “close to nature”. If getting close to nature is what you hope to do in Costa Rica, Tortuga Lodge is probably a good fit. The thing that so... More

Spent two nights in the Tortuga Lodge and wish it could have been more. Loved everything about it. The staff was wonderful. The grounds were beautiful. The excursions offered were great (we did the boat trip, town tour, afternoon and night hikes). Loved being able to take a 2 minute boat ride and walk on the beach. So much to... More

These guests really dug in and explored Tortuguero, if you’re in to wildlife, there is so much to see and do. We recommend a stay of 2-5 nights, this way you can plan to visit the park several times. Each time you go into the park you are likely see new creatures and very possibly species that you have already... More

We are so pleased that we have chosen Costa Rica for our trip in 2015, especially chosen Tortuga Lodge & Gardens. Service was excellent. Staffs knows how to make visitors comfortable and happy. I am a Japanese. Japan is a country where service is the best in the world. I have stayed in many hotels/vacation villas of many countries so... More

This eco-friendly lodge made you feel comfortable even in the middle of a rainforest. Although there was no A/C, we were comfortable with fans and breezes. The staff was very friendly and accommable. (Shout out to Priscilla) Don't miss the boat tour. The free guided walk was informative. The self-guided walk was scary! You casn check out the black sand... More

You have quite an impressive list of creatures seen while on tour! “Saw Howlers, White-faced and Spider Monkeys, Crocodiles, Caimans, Sloths -even a boa constrictor!” Don’t forget binoculars (8x42) recommended, 7x32 minimum (getting a closer look at wildlife is really rewarding). We are delighted to hear that you had such a wonderful time! Natalie Ewing Director Marketing & Guest Satisfaction More

Incredible place to visit, to have rest and fun. Tortuga Lodge & Gardens has everything to satisfy even a "hard-to-please" guest - I was especially glad to discover free WIFI - the thing no one can live without nowadays:) and the food their restaurant offer. WOW, all the way from Poland! We are delighted that we satisfied this hard to please guest! She mentioned the free wifi, considering where we are located, we are fortunate to have reasonably stable wifi for Costa Rica. Please do keep in mind that you will be traveling to an extremely remote location and it can go down. This is... More
