Tortuguero is awesome. The lodge is real nice. But this is a lousy deal. You need to take a water taxi to get in and out. This wouldn't be to bad if they had something to offer besides accommodation. The food in the restaurant is dreadful. Tilapia is the cheapest fish at home, and it was the only choice! There... More

This hotel had beautiful grounds and the view of the water was spectacular for both sunrise and sunset. The rooms were a bit spartan with only beds and a bathroom which could have used some updating. Also, there wasn't any hot water, which really is no big deal in Costa Rica where it is so hot already. Just as most... More

We stayed at La Baula (full board) as part of A Tortuguero package from exploradoresoutdoors.com. It's a fantastic location, on the waterfront of the Tortuguero canal. The rooms are simple, but comfortable, spread out in the lovely gardens. With the rainforest on your doorstep, we saw plenty of wild visitors, with a troupe of monkeys regularly visiting the grounds, and... More

From the moment they whisked us from the airport in their water taxi to Michael greetings us in the lobby with a welcome drink, we knew the service would be supreme. All the staff was so friendly and helpful. Booking great tours, making sure we reached our destinations and then pick when we were finished. Five stars for service and... More

This lodge is on the other side of the canal from where the town centre is beach is. We stayed here as part of G adventure tour. The rooms are simple rustic, no air con but there's a very good fan, no fridge so keep that in mind for storing items. There is a nice pool and the gardens are... More

One afternoon we were waiting for a kayak tour guide. The owners stepped in to make sure the guide knew we were ready and waiting...great service. All the resorts there have river taxis to get you around. The boat drivers were friendly and on time... again great service

I hated tortuguero, it's a dump. The lodge was awful, dirty rooms, bathroom discusting, we were told not to get make up or wipe our feet on towels, toilet paper has to go in a open bin. No ac just a really crappy fan, got woke up each morning by howler monkeys as in everywhere we went, so that's expected,... More

We arrived in late April at the beginning of the wet season. It's a good time to be here as the holiday makers (except us and a few others) have gone! So we got the best attention from the staff. The rooms are clean, no air conditioning - but an excellent ceiling fan in ours kept us cool during the... More

Picked up by boat with the group I was travelling with. The hour + journey is part of the adventure with glimpses of animals and birds even in the pouring rain. The resort is all inclusive with buffet meals - all very good. It is possible to get a la carte too. Good range of choices both buffet and a... More

Fronting the canal, La Baula Lodge with its well-maintained grounds, is only a short boat ride across from Tortuguero village. Here most guest buildings have sitting porches with at least a glimpse of the water. Additionally, one’s stay can be enhanced by the small pool, wifi, and the fine meals served in an open-sided pavilion. My comfortably rustic lodging would... More
