I hated tortuguero, it's a dump. The lodge was awful, dirty rooms, bathroom discusting, we were told not to get make up or wipe our feet on towels, toilet paper has to go in a open bin. No ac just a really crappy fan, got woke up each morning by howler monkeys as in everywhere we went, so that's expected,... More

We arrived in late April at the beginning of the wet season. It's a good time to be here as the holiday makers (except us and a few others) have gone! So we got the best attention from the staff. The rooms are clean, no air conditioning - but an excellent ceiling fan in ours kept us cool during the... More

Picked up by boat with the group I was travelling with. The hour + journey is part of the adventure with glimpses of animals and birds even in the pouring rain. The resort is all inclusive with buffet meals - all very good. It is possible to get a la carte too. Good range of choices both buffet and a... More

Fronting the canal, La Baula Lodge with its well-maintained grounds, is only a short boat ride across from Tortuguero village. Here most guest buildings have sitting porches with at least a glimpse of the water. Additionally, one’s stay can be enhanced by the small pool, wifi, and the fine meals served in an open-sided pavilion. My comfortably rustic lodging would... More

I was very nervous about staying at La Baula as there is much variety in the reviews. But, I was pleasantly surprised. They were ready and waiting when we arrived at the airport and the service was great up until the moment we left. The grounds of the lodge are great and offer good exploring and animal viewing. We saw... More

La Baula Lodge, Tortuguero Costa Rica Stayed here with a group if 14. Rember where you are at, this is a lodge on a river off the beaten path near a small costal village. It adequately provided all the basics for a good place to stage out of. Rooms had comfortable beds, western style toilets, hot water shower, maid service.... More

The hotel staff were super friendly and the food was great! The rooms are very simple but are adequate. Showering can be tricky as the water pressure goes low during busy times, but it wasn't a huge issue. It's also understandable considering the remote location. I would recommend this hotel to anybody wishing to visit Tortuguero!

It's located in the more wild area of Costa Rica and the river ride getting there is part of the experience. Considering the remote location, the rooms were quite nice and overall La Baula Lodge is stunning; just beautiful. If you expect cushy, posh, rooms then take a Princess Cruise. Being at La Baula is an ongoing tropical, jungle safari.... More

This lodge is a short water taxi ride to the National Park and the town. The rooms are shabby and sorely in need of updating. The shower trickles, the hot and cold are reversed, and you have to use tricks to get cold water out of the sink. The mattresses were poor quality and hard, and the walls are paper... More

We enjoyed our 2 nights here. Excellent food whether the served buffet when busy or the menu when fewer staying. Rooms are crowded with 3 beds and no furniture, but as there were only 2 of us we unpacked onto the spare beds. Lovely little pool in pretty garden. Surrounded by tropical forest. Need a water taxi to get to... More
