We had a double room on the top floor with balcony and shared bathroom. In this price range (28USD/night low season) we haven't found anything better. The room was cozy, clean and the beds had mosquito nets. Our room was cleaned every day. The bathroom was fresh and is shared between two rooms only. On the top floor no shoes... More

Visited this hotel for 2 nights and we got a lovely and clean room. The bathroom is open, this is a bit strange at first but gives a spacious feel to the room. The owner of the hotel was friendly, very willing to tell us where the best beaches could be found. They were nursing three kittens that they found... More

My husband and I took spanish classes at the Pura Vida Hotel. I had stayed here a few years ago and it was very clean and fantastic value. We weren't sure how the spanish classes would be but figured we'd give it a try. We took a total of 21 hours of classes over our vacation. From day 1, our... More

This place is very well run. Super clean, serene and has a chilled out vibe (we loved all the hammocks.) The staff is very knowledgeable, helpful for organizing tours or giving you directions to the best places in town. Also a great value for the stay. However, we had a rooster crow VERY loudly from 3:00 - 6:30 a.m. right... More

The owners of this hotel and the staff keep it very clean. They do have a lot of rules in place to help them accomplish this. It is a very western hotel so if this is what you're looking for if is ideal. The owners speak 3 languages including English and German and they are helpful. They offer breakfast and... More

So this first night I was being cheap and decided to stay at Rocking J's. That was a big mistake. I should have just stayed at Pura Vida. The staff there is very friendly and helpful. The place is a very close to the one of my favorite breakfast places in Puerto Viejo, Bread and Chocolate. If you are in... More

Today we were stuck out in the rain outside this hotel, we were waiting on a bus that was running late. The bus company called the hotel to speak to us and even though we weren't staying at the hotel (just getting picked up out the front) Luis found us and invited us inside out of the rain. He even... We were excited upon walking in because the property itself is very nice, the staff is great but when it comes time to sleep, there were a lot of barking dogs that kept us up until the roosters took over at the crack of dawn. I am sure this could have been a one-off but either way, it was our... More

My sister and I backpacked Central America for a little over a month, and we agree that Pura Vida was by far the most lovely hotel we stayed in on our trip. It was also the most expensive place we stayed on our trip - $38USD a night, but it's a steal, considering western standards. I expect from what I... More

For a budget hotel this place is amazing. Clean, elegant, with a great garden and a relaxed vibe. The breakfast (at $7) is a joke, but the rest of our stay here was a pleasure. Hot water, clean rooms, a nice strong fan and a good breeze, it's hard to complain. Prices are a tad higher than the budget backpacker... More
