Wonderful little bungalows in the middle of the jungle. Short walk to the beach, short ride to the town's restaurants. Nice pool which is not usual in Puerto Viejo. Lot's of wildlife...beware of snakes we saw two in two days!

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. The maitre'd and waiter were very friendly and quick to serve. The restaurant is nicely decorated. Very good cocktails. The food was delicious. A higher price for the area but well worth it.

We stayed at Hotel Shawandha Lodge for 3 nights in November 2014. The hotel is well placed near Playa Chiquita, within walking distance of the Caribbean shores and a handful of friendly local businesses which includes cafés, bars, restaurants and a chocolate farm. Upon arrival at Shawandha we were greeted by Maria, who had confirmed our reservation in advance, and... More

There are some situations in life where you don't need a book, I-pad, kindle or any other electronic device - it is enough just to sit and observe the world around you, which is exactly how we felt whilst sat on the veranda of our lodge at the Shawandha Lodge. Howler monkeys in the trees overhead, agoutis chasing each other... More

We stayed 2 nights at Shawandha lodge. We chose it for the jungle bungalows, there are some huge old trees here, with lots of wildlife. The cuisine is very good, the owner is a European lady, and she is very hands on. The breakfasts are delicious. There is a walking path to get to the beach. The rooms were comfortable.... More

We had the pleasure to spend one night in this wonderful lodge, and it was a most pleasant stay. I agree with a previous reviewer describing the place as a small boutique hotel in the jungle. The individual bungalows are spacious and confortable with modern bathrooms. The restaurant is awesome, I will critic it separately. Free wifi is available in... More

We stayed at Shawandha in February and thoroughly enjoyed our trip. The owner of the place is nice and helpful with anything you may need. The place provides a true Costa Rican experience as it's located in a forest-y area but only about 5 minutes away from the beach. The wildlife is amazing and the beaches are nice. The town... More

Shawandha Lodge is a cluster of 14 private and well-appointed thatched-roof huts each with a veranda and hammock immersed in the jungle with 200' trees and a variety of wildlife flora and fauna (hummingbirds, sloths, howler monkeys), some 200 yards from the beach. The grounds are well-kept and amazingly manicured and the pool is a pleasant extra for a break... More

Lovely place, great accommodations and good breakfast (although it rained every day, all day we were there.) I must commend Maria for her customer service. She was attentive and quick and understanding, much more so than others at the desk.

This lodge is almost 'historical' as it is around 20 years old and we have been returning over and over again. It has always prided itself in good taste in decor and the food is pretty good, although not consistently so. The biggest problem we encountered this year was the fact that needing some work done on the netting that protect... More
