The location is perfect because it is right off the beach and at the same time slightly away from all the shops and the hustle and bustle of all the tourists of downtown Puerto Viejo if you're not into that. The rooms are spacious with a super large queen-size bed and a balcony with a hammock overlooking the Caribbean Sea,... More

The Caribbean side of Costa Rica seems to be more rustic and a little less modern than the Pacific side. That said, this was a nice, clean, very comfortable, and uncrowded place to stay. It appears to be a bit older but well taken care of. We had a nice porch. It only had one lounge chair so I asked... More

We are very pleased you enjoyed your stay at VIllas del Caribe; was a real pleasure to welcome you as our guest. Indeed some areas of our hotel are old buildings; such as an old, authentic and traditional caribbean style beach house which is the site of our Seaside restaurante. We hope you enjoyed our "Gallo pinto"... We deeply appreciate... More

Villas del Caribe has a wonderful location; straight at the beach and you can choose to straight dip in the blue for some snorkeling at the reef, walk 5 minutes to the beach break for surfing or stroll in the different direction for some calm swimming waters.... just beautiful!

Lets say first this hotel is in the Caribbean and that mind since obvious for you and me but some ppl don't take that seriously. Being in the Caribbean is hard this is not the kind of weather you can control but in a beautiful way. You will see some ants walking in the kitchen if you let something out... More

Having already been to the Pacific side, I'd wanted to explore the eastern coast of Costa Rica, so we stayed at Villas del Caribe on the advice of a friend of a friend. I'm going to try to write a fair review here, because I can see how this place would be great for some people--but it definitely isn't for... More

We stayed here with friends and it's in a very good location. One of the problems we incountered the restaurant wasn't open in the evening, so we had to go to town to eat. The rooms were nice, beds where very comfortable and the sound of the Caribe was soothing. We also seen toucans behind our rooms and sloths in... More

My husband & I were book here with another couple on a groupon deal. We stayed in a "superior" room on the 2nd floor away from the pool...slept like babies, but we love the sound of the waves and the pounding rain. The bed was a bit hard for our taste (better than too soft). Our internet worked great in... More

I love showing up in low season with my laden-down bicycle: I get smoking deals. This is a great beachfront hotel. Thanks (and it is a heartfelt thanks) to the Cocles/Chiquita/Uva Triumvirate, there are almost no true beachfront hotels along this coast, but this is one of them. The staff here are really great. I left a debit card in... More

My husband and I are seniors who very recently stayed in this excellent resort for 10 of the greatest days of our 6 weeks in Costa Rica. One could not ask for better service. Fresh linen daily, the pool was pristine due to a hard working pool man every day by 7:Not only is this hotel right by the ocean... More

I am writing this review while sitting by the open front desk which is right on the beach. The rooms of this hotel are also right on the beach. This fact alone should give this hotel a higher overall rating than it currently has. Most of the hotels here in Puerto Viejo are actually "just off the beach". This means... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Life is at its tranquil best at Villas del Caribe. The days go something like this: You wake to the sound of bird songs and a view from your bed of silvery palms and clear blue sea. You throw open the sliding doors and take to the hammock on the balcony for a little rest, refreshed by the ocean breeze. You may now be ready to take a dip in our swimming pool and enjoy the elevated thatched Jacuzzi for a relaxing massage.Once the lure of the sea becomes too much, you wander through the landscaped gardens onto the beach path, where you face a decision between the long, deserted golden sand beach to the left or the many pristine golden sand beaches to the right. You settle for one of the shallow, sandy natural lagoons formed by the coral reef right offshore, and watch tropical fish wiggle past your toes. After a fresh water shower on your terrace, you walk over to the SeaSide Restaurant for breakfast or a snack, then you take a bike and cycle down the flat paved road past fields, forest, a few thatched bars and restaurants to Puerto Viejo for coffee or a drink, the local gossip, and some good, fresh fish at the beachfront store. You spend the afternoon alternating between the beach and the sea, the loungers on the terrace, and the hammocks on the balcony. ... more   less
