We absolutely loved Walaba and could not have asked for a better week. There were two of us and we stayed in a private room with 2 single beds. The atmosphere and ambiance of Walaba was exactly what we were looking for as a relaxing holiday/escape from the chaos of every day life. It was quiet, we were surrounded by... More

As the title states the staff (Andy) was absolutely amazing! The problem is not the common areas, which are really nice, but the rooms. I equate it to a treehouse with plywood walls that don't reach up to the roof, so there's no such thing as privacy when you book a private room. The rooms also shake when anyone walks... More

I had a great 5 days at Walaba last week with my boyfriend right outside of Puerto Viejo. The owners and entire staff are very helpful with every detail from your transportation to the airport to helping you properly set up the mosquito nets over the bed. The place itself is adorable and clean with a restaurant almost right next... More

I loved staying at Walaba Hostel. The common areas are great and have a kind of treehouse feeling to it. Kitchen is well equipped and spacious, the coffee maker is absolutely rotten though and takes an hour to produce a teaspoon of lukewarm coffee. But the coffee is free, so is this a point to complain? One that definitely is,... More

We arrived cranky, tired and a bit stinky, but Maria greeted us with the utmost compassion and sweetest customer service, ever. We were shown to our room immediately so we could unload our luggage. Maria gave us a tour of the hostel and answered our questions with knowledgeable patience. Our first 4 nights were spent in a shared house –... More

- Me and my girlfriend came and stayed here just after new years. - Excellent owner who was incredibly hospitable, helpful & (Really gave 110%!) Good local knowledge. We only had a few days and the owner knew how to help us make the most of them. Made some phone calls on our behalf, booked tours & restaurant for us!... More

Walaba hostel exceeded my expectations. You have to see this place: no windows, and built up with trees surrounding it. Each morning I heard howler monkeys. There are many hammocks, perfect for relaxing/reading/snoozing in. The hostel is just a few minutes away from Punta Uva beach, with Puerto Viejo and Manzanillo beaches a short bike ride away. The staff are... More

I was very satisfied with my stay here. Location is fantastic: beach across the road and 5km between Puerto Viejo and Manzanillo (giving you even access to both towns)! At first glance at our private room, it felt a bit grim without much day light. I very quickly realized that the lack of daylight was intentional to keep the heat... More
