Was a decent party vibe to this hostel, and is recommended by lonely planet. However the price stated in the book is $7 for a dorm, but it is actually $11. If it was $7 it could just be worth a stay. However, you can get a lot better hostel in Puerto Viejo with much better facilities and nicier surroundings... More

Rocking J's is a really relaxed, fun environment, the staff are all so friendly, it is a great place to meet other people travelling and making friends. Made quite a few friends at this place, J included :) would definitely recommend, we were three girls travelling together and we really enjoyed our time here

Some people go on holiday only to see the inside of every bar and pub along the way. This is a great place for them. I stayed in one of the observation towers which was cool and had a view during the day but I froze each night, as hard as that is to believe. The staff was less than... More

This place is disgusting. If you are in your early 20's this place is fine but if you are in your 30's this place is not for you. I rented a tent with my gf and was miserable here. I got bitten by bed bug ps and they wouldn't let me change tents. The place is filthy and disgusting.

(Stayed there in November 2012) Staying at this hostel is an experience in itself. I slept 3 nights in hammock for $7 /night and never regretted it for a second. Lots of the 18-35 set of travelers, and everyone was respectful. Great place to make friends and plan adventures. Pros: Large grounds and common area. Wide variety of accommodations (rooms/tents/hammocks).... More

I slept 5 nights in a tent (8 $ a night, april 2014) and it was enough for me. Normally, it was quite after midnight. The bathrooms are a bit exposed (everyone of the party folks would see if you go brush your teeth because you already want to go to bed ;) The hostel is a big work of... More

You don't often find such unique charm and beauty in such a gorgeous location. With its colorful Hamic's and quirky tile work I found it fun and memorable. You gotta read the rules, hilarious . Such a large property right on the ocean. It truly has everything you need, from community showers to the café and bar. The hotel/camp has... More

The roof where the hammocks are leaks so you get wet in the night, awful music, bad staff and attitude of staff, and the whole general place feels unwelcoming! For example they charge you for absolutely everything, including tap water, ice and the pool table - first place in 4.5 months where a hostel has charged for any of those... More

This place has so much potential to be interesting, but it fail miserably. I'm a regular dirty hostel stayer, but this place is a nightclub for underage gringos that also happens to rent hammocks. The bad mashups (redfoo with wreckingball, for example) blared till midnight as predicted. So i waited it out and figured these drunk fools will probly sleep... More

I stayed at Rocking J's for two nights, rented a small private room. The room was clean and the bed, which was a loft, was comfortable. But climbing up the ladder to the bed was difficult especially when trying to carry something up there like your laptop. There are no electric outlets up in the loft so you have to... More
