I think every young traveler should try this place. The tents were a good value, the hammocks you could not go wrong with, but the rooms looked like a joke. We were planning on just 2 nights there as we worked our way down to Panama but ended up staying for 4 night then made a point to stay on... more

One of the dirtiest and least organised places I have ever stayed at. I think it's obvious that they only get business by being Lonely Planet's favourite and because many tourists are afraid to go to places that aren't filled with other backpackers. They actually rent out tents that are lined up one next to another for the starving to... more

This place is REALLY dirty. Every inch of the place is filthy. We booked the King Suite and Junior Suite. Nicest they have. We walked in, so bad we walked out and went to another place. We didn't even care that we lost our money. When Jay got back he agreed and redid the junior suite that day, and started... more

This is a great hostel for backpackers - huge with mozaic and original designs everywhere it not only is a great place to meet people but has a great atmosphere too. The bar/restaurant is really nice, the food is delicious although slightly on the expensive side. Rooms are dead cheap at $8 for a dorm and $5 for a hammock... more

If you're looking for a quiet hostel where you can catch up on your sleep this is not the place for you. However, if you want to spend $5 to sleep in a super comfortable hammock, meet people from all over the world, drink cheap beer and eat some gourmet food at rock bottom prices, seek out Rocking J's. My... more

I stayed here one night and it was not all that great. The place is funky, that is for sure, and I loved the mosaics. But upon closer inspection, I founds loads of dirt and grime, broken down furniture and gross smells. No screens in the rooms, and there were chunks of hair on the floor (not mine). The bed... more

Some people say they had a good time there (party) but our experience was different. We were 3 girls and we came to the reception where there were three chicks working and they saw us but didn't even look at us when we got to the counter. We were standing there for quite a while but they were just chatting... more

We stayed at Rocking J's because all the guidebooks said it was the best budget option in the area - NOT TRUE!! This place is dirty and has hot, stifling, tiny little rooms. And it's WAY overpriced. Two of us stayed in a "cabina" because we wanted privacy, but it was little more than a closet with an awkward loft... more

I had heard great things about Rocking J's- so that's why it was my first pick for accommodations in Puerto Viejo. We stayed in a private double- which was a complete rip-off. The room consisted of a loft bed which was very awkward to climb into, NO mosquito net and NO screen on the small jail-cell like window in the... more
