Don't expect much. After a 3 hour bus ride and a 2 hour boat ride through Amazonian like rainforest, you arrive and this wet, wet, wet, dump. The beds were wet, the floor had a sheet of moisture all over it, the bathrooms need updating. On the other hand, the food and dining hall was great. All is open air,... more

There is nothing like Tortuguero. In the middle of nowhere, a 2 hour bus ride for us, plus 1.5 hour boat ride into Pachira....you are transported to something like in the movies. Like everything else in Costa Rica, the atmosphere is more rustic than Ritz Carlton. I wrote all of my reviews in Costa Rica taking this into account. That... more

If you're an "indoor" person... brace yourself. This is the jungle. The lodging is comfortable, but rustic. Expect very large insects and arachnids. Expect lizards and geckos. Expect to be awakened by howler monkeys calling overhead (or even on your roof). But also expect to see sloths, three species of monkeys, and a seemingly infinite variety of birds in the... more

Getting there is part of the fun via a bus ride through a stunning cloud forest and banana plantation and a boat ride through the canals. The hotel staff is remarkably attentive and friendly. The wildlife is revealed through the guides’ keen senses during expeditions on land and water. more

Loved the hotel and the enjoyed watching the wildlife. The only complaint I had was the staff was not very responsive. Each room is built on a porch and my mother's light was burned out. It can be very slippery and dark trying to get to meals even with a flashlight. When we reported the porch light out, lighting the... more

I loved it here. I was here for two nights with a tour group. We came by a boat taxi. Not sure how to do it if I went without a tour group. It was beautiful. They rooms are separate cabins on stilts. The walkways are also on stilts. Monkey and sloth families resided in the trees in the area.... more

Out of our whole trip to Costa Rica this was my favourite location. Though it took a long time to get there (4 hour coach Trip from San Jose and the 1.5 hour boat journey) it was well worth it - it was so tranquil and beautiful. The whole trip was well organised - our tourguide was fantastic and looked... more

It's difficult to write a review of the quality of the Lodge by itself, without reference to the whole package that you will probably be on. Overall the package was very good - we had an excellent guide, well-organised efficient transfers, good organised activities, largely included, in a wonderful setting in the heart of the jungle. The whole operation to... more

This is a great place to stay for 1 to 3 nights. Okay, so the rooms are not to be compared with 4/5 star hotels, but that is not why you stay here. You get to the lodge by travelling along the canals for an hour or so which is great fun. The rooms are semidetached lodges along walkways in... more

We stayed at Anhinga Lodge which is part of Pachira. Walking through the raised sidewalks in Anhinga you have the illusion that you are in a nice lodge walking right through the jungle. The illusion falls apart once you enter the rooms and begin to roam the property. The rooms are in desperate need of updating and cleaning. Even though... more
