We ended up staying at the Hotel Suerre on a recommendation from the Rios Tropicales staff. Since we were visiting CR by car - we were mobile and flexible and did not rely on shuttle busses to pick us up for excursions such as white water rafting. The hotel sits on a compound that offers tennis, a gym, an olympic size pool and a restaurant. Rooms are just OK w/AC and TV. The decor is dated, rooms are clean and the staff is friendly. A good place to stay since the town of Guapiles is beween the Caribean coast and San Jose.
