It's no resort, but if you aren't a snooty nose tourist and understand the fact that you are 30 kms from any real town, you'll be fine. It has everything you "need". Maybe a bit over priced but you cannot get any closer to the Chirripo trail-head. The weather is cool enough (since you are in elevation) that you don't... More

Casa Mariposa is beautiful. It's clean, well maintained, and super convenient if you're hiking Chirripo. The kitchen and rooms are spotless and well appointed, and the dorm is one of the coolest I've ever stayed in. Great mix of young and old, solo and couples and groups. I enjoyed my time at Casa Mariposa, but there are two reasons I... More

We loved our stay at this hostel in 2012. We had a private room and it was comfortable and cozy. Perfect location to start the hike up the mountain, but a little ways away from other attractions, restaurants and market, but there's really no way around that in this town. Here you're right at the edge of the jungle, and... More

Hostel-style accommodations, with a very pleasant atmosphere. Lots of very interesting young people. Most had hiked or intended to hike the Chirripo (highest point in the Country). We were more into nice hikes (including the Cloudbridge Reserve) but not as tough as the top of the Chirripo. I would say that some of the rooms are more for the young-ish... More

We came here to climb Chirripo, that's how we found the place. The hostel itself is very nice, it's clean and well planned. Some of the rooms, atleast the dorm is really nice cut into the mountainside and really cool looking. The downside of the whole situation is maybe that the hostel is situated 2,5 km steep uphill from the... More

Rest, Relaxation, Reuse, Re-purpose! The unique and flowing structures include clay and stone walls incorporating glass bottles, pressed plastic "trash" bricks and inspired molding! The rooms are interesting and comfortable. 15 steps from National Park Chirripo entrance and closest hotel to CloudBridge, in perfect spot for exploring both national treasures! Clean!!!

Our 3 night stay at Casa Mariposa was delightful. On our previous stay in Rivas it was at a very nice, but pricey small resort. It was also a tough hike from there to the Cloud Bridge Reserve and the trail head for Chirripo. This time we decided to stay at Casa Mariposa which offered more economical choices such as... More

We had plans that fell through for hiking Chirripo -- luckily our hosts were of great help and we were able to still hike after waiting in line at the park office for permits on our second day. They were able to help us organize our own trip! An amazing experience all around. We don't speak spanish; so it was... More

This was the best hostel (out of 6) we stayed at on our trip! The owners and the hostel hosts were fantastic...everyone was very friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Hot water, free tea and coffee, and a computer available to use (no wi-fi, which is actually kind of nice). We didn't climb Chirripo, and they were full of suggestions for other... More

Even if you aren't up to climbing Chirripo,, this hostel is a great home away from home. John and Jill, and whoever they've rounded up to help host, are excellent people to hang with. We stayed 4 nights, doing hikes around the Cloudbridge Reserve and town, and talking it up with all the international guests doing the summit. They make... More
