We were initially booked at the Alby lodge for two days. Upon reaching Cahuita and checking in to Alby we found out that Alby does not have A/C. Handed the owner $40 and asked her to recommend us a place with A/C. She suggested us to go to Magellan Inn. We then went to the Playa Negra guesthouse, which is... more

I arrived in late in Cahuita and checked in to a perfectly nice place right near town called Bungalows Ache, but I wanted something nicer. The following morning, I got up at dawn and walked all the way down Playa Negra, checking out every single set of bungalows and places to stay. After several hours, it was quite clear the... more

if you go to the caribean coast, it is simply the best, when looking for a boutique-style hotel with friendly nice owners, a excellent garden with a pool, well protected from any noice of cars, air-conditions or whatever, but still close enough to the beach to hear the waves at night. Quality/price is the best we have had after 3... more

My teenage daughter Anna and I stayed at the Hotel Magellan Inn for 4 nights. We were immediately taken upon arrival with the beautiful, paradise-like feel of the property. It is very tropical with many lovely plants and flowering bushes and trees. One walks into an extremely private secluded little heaven. You could be on your own little private island... more

We stayed here for two nights in Feb 2009.Rooms were small but clean however carpets are a mistake in this type of climate. The gardens and pool are very nice but after rain the trudge across the lawn to our room was muddy to say the least . Room was nicely furnished but a small fridge and a coffee maker... more

It doesn't seem many owners respond to bad reviews, and maybe it is not the smart thing to do. But I do care about my hotel, a lot of care, love and thought has been put into it, especially in the details. With my guest book full of compliments and clients telling me about the special feeling of this place,...

I completely agree with the prior reviewer. This hotel/b&b has appeared in the Costa Rica guidebook, which by itself gives it traffic. The owners seem content to rely on prior positive reviews without making an effort to create a really clean place and a nice experience. It's overpriced, we paid $80 per night ($70 plus tax) and it is $10... more

I wasn't sure I should respond but thought it necessary to answer a few of the points below. First of, all, I do wish this client would have talked to me and explained his unhappiness in our hotel and dislike of our rooms, during his stay. Each client looks at the room, and knows the price before deciding to stay...

We spent three nights at the Magellan Inn in late December. While we would agree that the gardens and landscaping are beautiful and peaceful, there are some drawbacks including: price (not good value for $); mildewey carpets in the room; very cool reception from the manager; and location (it's more than a walk into town). more

We stayed 3 nights at this very nice inn.We especialy liked the carefully designed landscape , pool and dinning, lobby area. We had two of our best meals at the Inn during our three week plus trip to Costa Rica.We think it was one of our best values of the whole trip. The Inn is located about a mile out... more

For the second time this year, I spent the week-end at the Magellan Inn, I really can't get enough of this wonderful place. The peaceful gardens are the best. My kid had a great time with the owner's animals : dog, parrots, rabbit and horses, he could even feed the parrots with his hands and was so happy about that.... more

I first stayed at the Magellan a couple of years ago when I ramdomly selected Magellan Inn as a choice of lodging. It was LOVE at first stay and have been stayin there ever since. Terry and Topo are by far the most welcoming and friendliest of all hosts (and I have traveled quite a bit). I love the attention... more
