Spacious rooms with mosquito net, nice colors, very friendly hostess and great location (nex to Cahuita National Park). Too many bugs in the rooms though, due to all the holes in the walls and doors. Needs a little renovation and some new sheets and nets. Still had a nice time.

As a lone female traveller I like to book or at least identify accommodation before I arrive in a town. I emailed secret garden and the owner said she had a room and I made a reservation but no deposit was needed. When I arrived to Cahuita at 8 pm and was escorted by 4 locals to secret garden the... We were poor planners and didn't make a reservation anywhere in advance and everything was booked so we ended up staying here since the other option didn't even have sheets on the bed. It didn't look that bad at first glance but we practically ran out of there the next morning, I didn't sleep a wink that night. I had... More

Stayed in a double room for two nights, which was ok, the room is fairly clean and towels are replaced each day. Our room didn't have a door between the bathroom and bedroom which is not a huge problem but it's not ideal. The walls are also quite thin, so you have to be (un)lucky with who is staying next... Secret garden, as its name suggests, has a lovely garden, with hammocks and a common area with tables etc. I stayed in the dorm and was a bit disappointed as the sheets, pillows and towels were very old and very worn. The private rooms looked nice however. There is an outside kitchen, which is not very clean either.

Nice garden and porch area to chill in, Kitchen was super dirty, looked like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks. The room we stayed in was really tired, the sheets were threadbare and toilet didn't flush the whole time we were there, the owner had to come in with a bucket to flush it every time it needed to be... Secret Garden earns his name by its beatiful garden, lots of flowers and hammocks. It's located very close to the entrance of the Cahuita National Park. The kitchen is simple, but clean and everything you need is provided. I only spent one night, because I did not have time to stay longer, but I think this place is a really... More

We stayed here for 2 days on our way back from Manzanillo. We had just left the Mar Y Sol in Manzanillo and loved it there. The owner recommended this hostel and they were right about the Lazy Mon so we tried this too. We stayed in a private room and were very happy. The room was a bit cluttered,... More

I stayed at Secret garden again this year and again liked it very much. This year I was not in teh dorm but in a private room. Beds were comfortable, towels are included and are changed regularly. Only downside in room was, that there is no door to teh bathroom - but that is not uncommon in Central America. The... More

The rooms are spacious and clean but lack a bit of tlc. The bed was also rather hard and uncomfortable. Our room looked out onto the communal area so was quite noisy. But the other guests were respectful about not being noisy late at night. This hostel is an animal lovers dream as there is a resident dog and 3... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
We are located 1 minute from the National Park of Cahuita, also the centre. This is a peaceful place to relax, watching the humming and other birds and butterflies in our garden. We have a terrace with roof, so when it rains you still can sit outside. The howler monkeys come very close in the backyard. ... more   less
