This is a good stop off point on the way up to Tortuguero and beyond from San Jose. Selve Verde larger than the average lodge. It offers comfortable, clean, basic accommodation. Food is adequate and served buffet style in a large cafeteria style dining room although there is a separate pizza restaurant. This a lovely place to stay if you... More

We stayed here three nights in December. Our room was spacious - big enough for the three of us. The bed coverings were stained, curtains were stained, half of the light bulbs did not work, no toilet paper in the bathroom upon arrival, and then each day we had to request towels. There was a continual odor of sewage coming... More

Pros: * First impression of the place is amazing! The buildings that form the clusters really give you a feeling of being in the jungle. * Good set of trails on the lodge grounds (but you must pay to access part of the grounds) * Decent (but not great) breakfast included * You can get good rates for a stay... We had a great stay here. Don't miss the La Selva Biological Station, great visit very natural with lots of birds. About 20 or so minutes from the Lodge. The Biological Station do not feed the birds, all sightings are natural, and there are many of them. Firstly we had a lovely surprise when we arrived at the Lodge, it... More

The hotel is located in the nature and the covered pavement offers a great possibility to walk around (dry!) and spot some animals. We enjoyed spotting birds from the spotting place just behind the reception. When crossing the road there is also a possibility to walk through a butterfly and flowergarden, which is very nice. Rooms are large, proper and... More

We had just a couple of free days just not enough to make it worthwhile to go to the Osa Peninsula or back down to Puerto Viejo on the Caribbean after leaving San Jose decided to try the Sarapiqui area. It was about a 2.5 hour drive for us with a stop for lunch. The main lodge side seemed to... More

Spent 4 nights here just a couple of weeks ago, my aim was to get to Costa Rica for a week and see as much wildlife as possible, especially birds. Very few guests at this time, but the staff were unfailingly helpful and courteous. The night walk, birdwatching tours etc were fantastic because really it was like a private tour.... More

Enjoyed my stay very much. The front desk staff is friendly and helpful. I arrived early in the morning, and they gave me a different nearby room so that I could register early. They also helped our little tour group have a small get-together after the night hike. The bar was closed by 9:00 o'clock, so we called the front... More

We did a one night stopover at Selva Verde Lodge while en route from Puerto Viejo de Talamanca to the Arenal. The lodge is located near Chilamate in a natural reserve between route nr. 4 and the Sarapiquì river. Occasionally it hosts symposiums of nature conservation (one about wild cat conservation in the Americas was hosted during may of this... More

We stayed here in August 2014 and were amazed by the quiet that reigned in this place. There were not many guests at the lodge, so we could listen to the sounds of birds, grasshoppers and nocturnal frogs undisturbed. The lodge definitely offers greater comfort than others in the same category as the bungalows are spacious, the fans are really... More
