What a wonderful place to happen upon in the pouring rain after a mammoth day from Lake Arenal with road closures and diversions. It just appeared out of nowhere and it was wonderful. The staff, the room, the breakfast, dinner, drinks and most of all the Flora & Fauna. The wildlife and the tour we did with Alex i think... more

The drive from San Jose to Selva Verde Lodge ( over 2.5 hours in rain) was worth every minute. We drove right up to the service desk and were greeted by the warmth only Ticos can offer. The rich glossy wood and stone were marvelous against the green canopy of the forest around this magical retreat. Only one minor setback,... more

Stayed here for our honeymoon a couple of weeks ago - and unfortunately it just wasn't up to scratch, so we had to cut out trip short. This place could be so perfect - and in other circumstances (ie, not our honeymoon - maybe it would have been fine). We booked the Bungalow - to find that it was very... more

We had a wonderful experience at Selva Verde Lodge. The staff was very helpful and accomodating. We went to Costa Rica to see birds and this place did not disappoint. The rooms are basic, but clean. The food is basic too, but abundant and fresh. We did a rafting trip through the hotel. It was a great expereince. We also... more

We had a great stay at Selva Verde - the wildlife was abundant and everywhere you looked there was something to see. We had a bright rumped atila nest right outside our room and even saw Costa Rica's most poisonous snake nonchalently crossing the footpath near to the swimming pool! The opportunity to have wonderfully crafted cocktails overlooking the river... more

Friendly..friendly staff. Stayed in a cabin right in the rainforest. Walked under lit covered walkways through botanical gardens to get to cabin. Excercise to walk off the great meals. Each morning we woke up to a hummingbird at our window and the sounds and sights of the tropical rainforest. We loved it. Thank you. more

The wide variety of reviews of Selva Verde puzzled me until we stayed there for three night in March. I think for anyone not used to the tropics this might be a great experience, especially waking up to howler monkeys booming right outside the bedroom. The setting is gorgeous, with rooms built on stilts so that the walkways look down... more

My first trip to Selva Verde, my husband's second. I was a little hesitant when realizing how remote this lodge seemed from any services from civilization, but was reassured when I found that their kitchen served a buffet for all meals. The cuisine is nice and typical Costa Rican but not that exciting, so if you're expecting gourmet, head elsewhere.... more

I see that Selva Verde has gotten some mixed reviews, but perhaps some folks had unrealistic expectations. Our room was clean, with a modern bathroom. We loved waking up to the sounds of howler monkeys! And the staff could not have been nicer. This was also a great bargain, with all meals covered with the room rate. The buffets had... more

We stayed here for one night en route to Arenal. The hotel had been highly recommended in the Rough Guide, and locals we spoke to confirmed that it was THE place to stay in the area....so perhaps our expectations were too high. The clientele were exclusively US tourists over the age of 60. The hotel bar was deserted, except for... more
