We went to Selva Verde to experience the self guided tour and walk across the suspension bridge. We ended up venturing to the bar at the lodge, and boy aren't we glad! We sat at the bar and they made us some true Costa Rican drinks (Costa Rican rum with lime and pineapple) as well as Gorilla Milk. The two... More

Our room had a very treehouse feel. Nice creaky leather rocking chairs outside the door and a hammock to relax in. Couch inside and nice creaky wood. Love that sound. The walkways were covered, which was nice since the rain was nearly constant.

We only stayed one night but we felt the place looked very tired and in need of some serious tlc. There are old stone benches in the grounds that are mouldy and have become an eyesore - they need to be thrown away. The bedroom was OK, the pizza restaurant was fine, breakfast was pretty awful. I think this place... More

I loved our stay at the Selva Vertde lodge. It was rustic and just wonderful. The staff was very friendly and the service was great! The grounds were beautiful and right along the river. I highly recommend this hotel!

This is a good stop off point on the way up to Tortuguero and beyond from San Jose. Selve Verde larger than the average lodge. It offers comfortable, clean, basic accommodation. Food is adequate and served buffet style in a large cafeteria style dining room although there is a separate pizza restaurant. This a lovely place to stay if you... More

We stayed here three nights in December. Our room was spacious - big enough for the three of us. The bed coverings were stained, curtains were stained, half of the light bulbs did not work, no toilet paper in the bathroom upon arrival, and then each day we had to request towels. There was a continual odor of sewage coming... More

Pros: * First impression of the place is amazing! The buildings that form the clusters really give you a feeling of being in the jungle. * Good set of trails on the lodge grounds (but you must pay to access part of the grounds) * Decent (but not great) breakfast included * You can get good rates for a stay... We had a great stay here. Don't miss the La Selva Biological Station, great visit very natural with lots of birds. About 20 or so minutes from the Lodge. The Biological Station do not feed the birds, all sightings are natural, and there are many of them. Firstly we had a lovely surprise when we arrived at the Lodge, it... More

The hotel is located in the nature and the covered pavement offers a great possibility to walk around (dry!) and spot some animals. We enjoyed spotting birds from the spotting place just behind the reception. When crossing the road there is also a possibility to walk through a butterfly and flowergarden, which is very nice. Rooms are large, proper and... More

We had just a couple of free days just not enough to make it worthwhile to go to the Osa Peninsula or back down to Puerto Viejo on the Caribbean after leaving San Jose decided to try the Sarapiqui area. It was about a 2.5 hour drive for us with a stop for lunch. The main lodge side seemed to... More
