We read about this in our travel guide and were inquisitive an we had good reason to be. This place is really very special indeed and is well suited to the hard-core nature lovers an the enthusiasts (we are only enthusiasts). It seemed a lot of the clientel were using this as a base to study. The lodge is very... More

This place is unique. It is not just the frogs, iguana's, howler monkeys, humming birds, great flowers and tall trees on the terrain. You can also feel the intense respect for nature, both from the guests and the staff of the selva verde lodge. If you want to see and learn a lot, this is the place. Nice excursions possible... More

This is a bird watchers' dream. Very, very comfortable quarters tastefully presented. Tucked into its natural surroundings. Typical and plentiful Costa Rican food. Quiet. Bird feeders. Day tours available. More

Stayed here 3 nights, mainly to birdwatch...I was in good company as most other guests were walking around with their binos. Toucans, parrots, crazy looking tree frogs, three kinds of Monkeys. Bot the birding package and had a guided walk each morning Guides knew the birds by sound and sight. Also lodge provided meals which were a delicious and healthy... More

I've been there in the end of December 2011 and was my first contact with Costa Rica after a night in S.José. I was a little concerned about the Tripadvisor review of this Lodge, but I can honestly say that if you are not able to appeciate this Jungle Lodge, You'd better stay home and watch the Jungle on TV.... This lodge was on our recent Costa Rica country tour. We really enjoyed the lodge and its surroundings. Rooms were not huge but squeaky clean and had a desk and good lighting for reading at night. There are louvered wooden blinds on the screens but no glass in the windows. We found that to not be a problem as there... More

I suppose I had a very different idea/expectation of this place before I got there. While it suggest being in the jungle and the middle of the rain forest, one can hear the loud traffic of the main road (e.g., big trucks). While walking through the path that goes over the river, is beautiful, there was not much that impressed... More

The room: basic. Two beds. Bathroom: simple. One downside to the shower: you are sharing solar-heated water with three other rooms... rise early to ensure a hot shower before other guests sharing the same system. I figured this out on day one, and set the alarm early for days 2, 3, and 4. The bar and restaurant area are pleasant.... More

We spent 3 wonderful, active days at Selva Verde and cannot say enough about how enchanting our stay was. Seeing Toucans at breakfast, waking to the sound of Monkeys, avoiding dart frogs and the occasional lizard in your path. You are living in the rain forest -- it looks like Jurassic Park! The staff was kind, generous, accommodating and even... More

We had a river room for 1 night only. We arrived in the afternoon and staff recommended to do the trails on the hotel property. Seemed like a good idea, but the trails were not interesting at all and full of mud (and it had not even rained). The map we got made no sense at all. We passed by... More
