This was our very favorite place to stay in Costa Rica. The place is tranquil and has absolutely gorgeous gardens. The hotel owns the whole island (not all that big - 2 acres or so) but the landscape is like no other. The rooms are clean and beautiful with verandas containing soft furniture to sit in while you watch the... More

This unique setting has it all, beautiful location, gardens and wildlife as well as friendly, attentive and knowledgeable hosts. The rooms are tastefully decorated and had everything we needed and being able to sit on our balcony and be treated to a 'concert' by a family of howler monkeys was the cherry on the top. We had already had birds... More

Heliconia Island is one of the nicest gardens in Costa Rica. And for a good price you can sleep there aswell, including a good normal breakfast. You can also see a lot of birds and some other animals like monkeys, squirrels, etc.. Henk and Carolien, the owners, are not only very friendly, but also very helpfull with information about things... More

Gardens are small, beautiful and well maintained, with plenty of great birds. Our hosts were friendly and welcoming and it helps it you like dogs, because they have several that will greet you noisily on arrival! Don't stay here for more that one night if you don't have your own transport as there is little to do, breakfast is minimal... More

Great looking garden. Full of plants and animals and their own dogs (not to forget tame squirrel Sjakie) . Thanks Henk & Carolien for best care and pointing out your private wildlife during our short stay. Rooms are ok and ours had the best rainforest view. Great to hear the birds while your in bed. If you're a rainforest addict,... More

The gardens are nice but nothing exceptional compared to other gardens we visited in the area. We actually stayed at a home which had just as good a garden, so we were a bit disappointed to have made the trip to Heliconia which is "arguably" the nicest garden in the area (that is from Lonely Planet). It is arguable. I... More

I recently stayed at Heliconia Island and was not disappointed, I was in Costa Rica for bird watching and most days we were up at dawn and around and about till 5 or 6 pm, we originally decided against Heliconia Island as they did not provide dinner, however, we changed our minds and booked 2 nights, we now wish it... Lets start with the good things that we remember of our stay here. The garden is beautiful. When you enter the property by crossing the bridge, you feel like you walk in to paradise. Although it is a maintained garden and not 'wild nature', many animals can be found here. We were happy to see a sloth, hummingbird's nests, squirrels,... More

Thank you for the review. To let you know: we bought new towels and painted the cabins. We wonder what you missed with breakfast, we offer dark and whtie bread, ham, cheese, saugage, tomato, cumcumber, sereal, milk, coffee and tea as much as you like, marmelade, peanut butter and a fried or scrambeld egg! Is this not enough? Next to... More

We stayed here for three nights. The place is wonderful. Beautiful garden and the tour by Caroline is a must when you are in Sarapiqui. Lots of beautiful birds and animals. Several sloths on the property and at night with a tourch we saw two kinds of opossum and a kinkajou. Armadillos are common, but we missed them. The guesthouse... More
