The gardens are nice but nothing exceptional compared to other gardens we visited in the area. We actually stayed at a home which had just as good a garden, so we were a bit disappointed to have made the trip to Heliconia which is "arguably" the nicest garden in the area (that is from Lonely Planet). It is arguable. I... More

I recently stayed at Heliconia Island and was not disappointed, I was in Costa Rica for bird watching and most days we were up at dawn and around and about till 5 or 6 pm, we originally decided against Heliconia Island as they did not provide dinner, however, we changed our minds and booked 2 nights, we now wish it... Lets start with the good things that we remember of our stay here. The garden is beautiful. When you enter the property by crossing the bridge, you feel like you walk in to paradise. Although it is a maintained garden and not 'wild nature', many animals can be found here. We were happy to see a sloth, hummingbird's nests, squirrels,... More

Thank you for the review. To let you know: we bought new towels and painted the cabins. We wonder what you missed with breakfast, we offer dark and whtie bread, ham, cheese, saugage, tomato, cumcumber, sereal, milk, coffee and tea as much as you like, marmelade, peanut butter and a fried or scrambeld egg! Is this not enough? Next to... More

We stayed here for three nights. The place is wonderful. Beautiful garden and the tour by Caroline is a must when you are in Sarapiqui. Lots of beautiful birds and animals. Several sloths on the property and at night with a tourch we saw two kinds of opossum and a kinkajou. Armadillos are common, but we missed them. The guesthouse... More

The rooms are comfortable, the proprietors are friendly---what really recommends this place, however, is the stunning combination of avian and plant life. You will encounter a plethora of birds here especially in the morning when the feeders have fresh fruit. The garden grounds are fantastic and very welcoming for a nice stroll. Also, you might encounter a sloth or two;... More

The property used to be a botanical garden, so the large variety of plants attracts a large variety of birds. We saw several species here that we did not see anywhere else. The grounds are beautifully landscaped, this is a great place for bird photography, especially in the morning when birds gather around the feeders. I would recommend staying here... More

Comfortable rooms, a big garden with lots of Heliconias and a fabulous bird show during breakfast. Three ingredients for a pleasant stay in this part of Costa Rica, a must for photo enthusiasts among us. Although I've seen a lot of birds in this country it is a place with some species I have only see there. The full breakfast... More

We were a group of 5, who stayed in the hotel for a night during our trip to Costa Rica. I really loved the garden on the river and the trails. I had a walk on my own and managed to see many birds in the morning. Henk, Carolien and Linda were very friendly. Henk dropped us at our next... More

Heliconia island was the first stop in our 2 weeks CR tour. We chose the spot because we did not want to drive for long on the first day (still weary after a intercontinental flight). Heliconia prooved to be a good choiche. It's great for discovering the flora and fauna and to get into the right holliday groove. It is... More

Well worth a visit, though perhaps one night rather than two would have been more appropriate. With a car easy to get to, without difficult to leave. I waited 1hr 30mins for a bus at the end of the path on the main road for a bus, which should have turend up after 10 minutes. It was pouring down with... More
