Kay and Estaban were great hosts and have the most wonderful facility. The horses were lovely and we had the best time relaxing in the back yard around the pool. The food was second to none and we certainly enjoyed the extras such as the Tope, bull riding, and zip line.

We stayed with Kay and Esteban for a week and wanted to combine riding with relaxation and seeing the sights in Costa Rica. Kay put a programme together for us that was ideal. Nothing was too much trouble and arrangements were very fluid if we wanted to change our minds. The food was delicious and we looked forward to what... More

Kay and Esteban are the perfect hosts for every horseback rider from novice to the experienced. Esteban is the "horse whisperer" whose love of his horses shows in the respect they have for all riders, and both Kay and Esteban work tirelessly to provide the riding level, length of ride(s) and destinations each rider wants or needs. They are expert... More

My family and I (wife + 2 teenagers) stayed with Kay and Esteban at the Painted Pony for 3 nights earlier in August and from our arrival and invitation to local CR horse fiesta - suggested by Kay - we were over the moon with everything that had been prepared and unfolded over our stay. This place is very special... More

We equally enjoyed having you and your family at the ranch. It is wonderful to have people who not only ride, but have a deep respect for horses and horse management. We feel the ranch is an oasis so close to so many wonderful places to ride and convenient to all the popular tourist attraction. We hope you will come... More

Our trip was everything we had hoped for: excellent horses, interesting countryside, and great hosts. Kay and Esteban make you feel like family, and Kay is a great cook, too. The house and grounds are lovely, in the midst of beautiful tropical plantings, and being right on a ranch with horses everywhere you look is heaven for a horse person... More

Glad you enjoyed your stay. We are a little off the beaten path but close to Tamarindo, Conchal and the other area beaches. We consider the ranch an oasis of tropical trees and plants, with the bonus of monkeys daily passing through the ranch. Come back soon. More

It was truly an amazing experience to be on a ranch where the relationship between human and animal was so intertwined you could feel the positive connections. The Casita was perfect with all the right luxuries that you would want and won't get at a chain hotel. The breakfasts were amazing and if you still hungry afterwards you may have... More

I had heard about the ranch through a client of mine in Vancouver. She described it as her 'dream vacation' so naturally I had to look it up! I booked the next week on nothing but a whim and I could not be happier I did. This place changed my life and the way I view things. The horses are... More

It was really fun having you here, and we look forward to you coming back down soon. You are like family now with all the shared experiences. And one day soon we will travel north to see all of our Canadian friends. But...not in the winter. Keep riding. More

Kay and the staff at the Painted Pony Guest Ranch were great. I planned a surprise engagement trip and ride and Kay was very helpful and flexible. She helped plan the perfect ride and even provided surprise champagne at the end with photos and video. The horses were great and the ride was fantastic. I definitely recommend them for any... More

Prior to our trip to Costa Rica we researched options for a riding experience for our family, all pretty novice riders. The reviews of the Painted Pony ranch sounded perfect and we weren’t disappointed. Kay & Esteban took us on the ‘Taste of Guanacaste’ trail ride through ranches, back country trails and a small village where we stopped for a... More

The first riding experience for young riders and a novice riders is so important in building a good foundation for future rides. We provide an "introduction to the horses and riding" for beginners and those riders that need a quick refresher. Riding in small groups or families gives us the opportunity to provide individualized instruction on the trail. Many people... More
