Having just stayed at the Hotel Play Negra, I can say it's a great place as long as you aren't expecting something that this place isn't built to deliver. It's a great setting, with small round bungalows clustered above and around a pool and restaurant directly off the beach. There's also a small surf shop and a yoga pavilion directly... More

We stayed two nights in a bungalow without AC and we didn't experience the missing AC as a problem. The hotel is so very average. The same the beach. You can experience so many beautiful places in Costa Rica and Playa Negra is just a waste of time. There is absolutely nothing to do besides surfing. There are also limited... More

If you want surf, beach and a tranquil stay in beautiful surroundings, this is for you. For the surfer (we were just passing by) the ocean offers some of the best waves in Costa Rica. The bungalows offers good accommodation typical for a beach hang-out, but don't expect a Four Seasons Experience. This is more of a bare-foot bohemian place,... More

My family and I recently spent the first two weeks in December in the beautiful Casa Ganesha house located in the Hotel Playa Negra compound. The close proximity to the restaurant was an added pleasure. The food and service were always outstanding. ChiChi, you are the best! The rest of the staff is amazing as well. The chef will actually... More

First of all, the rooms were nice. Large and comfortable beds and very private. The location was incredible, smack back on an incredibly beautiful beach with amazing waves. The downside. We visited in September and there was literally no staff apart from cleaners or gardeners. Never did we meet a member of staff who would welcome us or give us... More

On a trip to Costa Rica we were looking for a true beach experience. Hotel Playa Negra offered just that with their picturesque bungalows or cabinas. Howler monkeys wake you in the morning and there is constant butterfly activity. Large flocks of brown pelicans cruise just above the waves. The beach is beautiful and is a surfer haven for both... The huts of the hotel are very nice and cozy, I had A/C in my room, couldn't of done it without. Although, the surf shop and restaurant/bar are really bad. First the restaurant, the service is very very slow, the food is good but they forgot my orders twice which is pretty annoying. Waiting one hour for a burger is... More

I stayed late June and booked the older rooms without A/C, which was fine with the overhead fan. The room is minimal but comfortable and clean. Shower was also OK and internet good enough for skype and streaming. Food at the restaurant is good but depends on what you order and the staff is very friendly. It is pricier than... More

My boyfriend & I came here for surf. I so wanted to like this place. I really do. I get that it's simple, minimal, and for surfers in mind who normally don't care for luxury amenities (as explained to me by my surfer bf). First of all, this is not a 4 star nor 5 star resort as some other... More

Playa Negra is a sleepy surf town and Hotel Playa Negra is the place to stay. It is an easy drive from Liberia airport, close to many beaches. There is a pool, surf shop and open-air restaurant. The Cabinas can ft 4 though most comfortable for 2 people. They have an indoor/outdoor feel and you are very close the the... More
