This place was quiet and beautiful. I was traveling alone and enjoyed the quiet evening after being in Jaco and San Jose earlier in the week. The beach was just steps away. The sunset was amazing and the night sky was crystal clear. Wind...even though it was beautiful out the wind was relentless. I don't know if it's like that... More

This western coast town south of Tamarindo is perfect for people who like to be off the beaten path and love beautiful scenery, amazing surfing & black sand beaches. We delighted in walking the beach and finding tidal pools to recline in as the tide rose. The hotel restaurant is right at the beach, just steps from your straw roof... More

Average Accommodation (NO A/C Unless You Pay More Money $$$$). Somewhat good food. The beach is great for surfing, just beware that the beach has a very rocky bottom so it can get quite dangerous. Make sure to wear sunscreen.

Hotel Playa Negra was exactly what I was looking for. It was safe, charming, and steps away from the surf at Playa Negra. Other excellent surf beaches were just a short drive away. The room and grounds were very well maintained and the reception staff were very friendly and helpful. I can't wait to return. We opted for a room... More

This secluded hotel is one of a kind! Very private and off the beaten path... Super friendly and helpful staff, AMAZING food, great beach! Bungalows are great: good size, clean and comfortable. Wouldn't have wanted my stay in Guanacaste any other way!

We went for dinner and hoped in the lovely beach atmosphere that food would be just as good. The service was laissez faire. My Mahi Mahi with mango salsa was good. But my husbands pasta was bland. We could have made it better at home. Skip and go to playa junqilall to Mondo Eco hotel for an amazing dinner.

We had a good time at Playa Negra. If you like surfing this is an awesome place to stay. The reef break is right out the front. We had a couple of small room issues and were moved twice but staff were very helpful and friendly and we were really happy we chose to stay here. It might be the... More

My sister-in-law moved to Playa Negra and my husband and I went to visit. We wanted our own space - so we stayed at Hotel Playa Negra, beings it was right down the road from her home. I was hesitant after some more critical reviews... however, this place was a little hidden gem! This is not the Waldorf or even... More

If you are looking for a slightly off-beat place to stay, this is the place for you. The cabins are not air-conditioned, but the ceiling fan was adequate for my needs. My cabin was spacious, clean, and most of all quiet. The staff were helpful and tried to meet all my needs. The pool is well maintained and the restaurant... More

Short walk from playa negra ranch where we rented a house. Terrible service. We were the only ones there and wait staff just stared and waited for us to approach. Coffee tasted like instant at 8 in morning. Pancakes flat and like rubber. 9 dollars for 2 small rubber pancakes. I would not recommend.
