The stay here was fantastic. Traveled with my sister and 2 kids, age 14 and 17. The area to surf was a minute walk from the hotel and the beach was great. Vidier had a lot of patience and was a great surf instructor. My sister and I were slow to learn, but the kids picked it up quickly. Kids... More

First, Playa Grande is an absolutely gorgeous stretch of beach. My first priority was learning how to surf, and Vidy, my surf instructor, had me up on day one. By day two, I was hooked. I didn't realize how good I had it until I took the water taxi to Tamarindo and saw at least 20 boards in the water... More

This camp is truly a gem. Extremely well maintained. Lovely, clean pool is a bonus. I enjoyed my time here so much I'm already brainstorming my trip back. The cafe Mar Azul adjacent is so good and convenient. The team that runs this whole facility, both the camp and the cafe, are the kind of people you're immediately thankful for... More

We had a great few days at the Surf Camp. Justen could not have done more for us, and he made us feel incredibly welcome. The surf lessons that you could get from the hostel were good value and the surf board hire was for 24-hours so we could surf the next day as well which was great. The open-air... More

Connected to the surf camp, and open for breakfast, cafe Mar azul is awesome. Run by a friendly Costa Rican couple, the food is authentic and amazing. Try the frozen mint lemonade and breakfast tacos or eggs with goat cheese and spinach and tortillas. Showing a pic of the vannana bread french toast. Your taste buds will thank you.

First off - we are not surfers, but the location of the surf camp and the prices seemed good to us. We are not hard core backpackers (we are in our 50's), so we don't do shared dorm rooms and where possible, we like private bathrooms, but the best option here was for a private room with shared facilities, which... I stayed for 4 nights. Close to the beach. The surf instructors and staff were so helpful and friendly. It was a one stop shop for me. Rooms, surf lesson, rentals, breakfast and lunch. Store and little restaurant just around the corner. Just a simple, fun, inexpensive way of staying in a little peace of heaven.

What a hidden gem I discovered at the Playa Grande Surf Camp Hostel! This is one of the most upscale hostel I've encountered in Costa Rica with rooms for all types. And the location is ideal. Situated in a beachside community called Palm Beach Estates, 2 minute walk to the surf, and 7 minute walk to the local market/restaurant/bar (which... More

We stayed at PGSC for 3 nights and enjoyed our stay. Bathrooms were kept clean and the cabin was perfect for us. Helpful and friendly owners/staff. Nothing negative to say about the accommodation however Playa Grande its self didn’t live up to my expectations. Not a great deal to do after sunset, limited on restaurants and bars. Be warned...if you... More
