My wife and I stayed 3 nights in the main building and had all our meals there. The room was spacious and very attractive with a lot of wood furnishings and floor and an entrance onto the wrap-around balcony. The staff was helpful and efficient, the public areas were pleasant, and the family-style meal service was fine. The setting in... More

Excellent in the care of the habitat, trails, viewing areas, lots of birds. The accomodations and meals exceeded our anticipation. All of the staff were very helpful and accesible. Either staying at the premontain rain forest or selected day trips, we were very satisfied. This is our fifth visit to Rancho Naturalista and we will be back ! Very peacful,... More

We enjoyed a week at Rancho Naturalista, at the end of February 2014. It was a glorious week. We were greeted by Jack and Harry (resident guides), and escorted to our casitas. From the moment that we arrived, we were made to feel very welcome. Our casitas were very clean, and comfortable. The lodge provides guests with many opportunities to... More

Rancho Naturalista's location is perfect for a great birding experience. We went there especially for the snow capped hummingbird and the local guide made sure we found it along with several other new species (and this was our 12th trip to Costa Rica). The grounds are lovely with a few nice hikes on the property and several guided tours to... More

Enjoyed our 3 night stay in one of the casitas with our friends. Great birding and great food, some of the best we have in Costa Rica......and that says a lot, because this was our 12th trip to Costa Rica, staying at 3 different places each visit. Welcoming hosts, expert guides, Harry and Jack, and did I say great birding!

This well run lodge is at a mid elevation of 3,000 ft. Temperatures here are quite pleasant and there are very few insects. The rooms are large but basic and quite clean. Same day laundry service for $10 for a half basket of clothes, or $20 for a full hamper full. Quite handy! Meals were served family style and were... More

After ten trips to Costa Rica, I broke down and paid for a night here. Our balcony room was large and very comfortable. Plenty of nice and photogrphable birds attended the feeders. Breakfast and lunch were above average, dinner was very average (huge ovecooked chicken breast and bland veggies; this was mediocre for Costa Rica, which has decidedly below average... More

Thank you for your nice review! We are sorry that you thought it was expensive. The guides are very reasonable (only $60.00 for a morning for a group of up to 5 people) and the birding is great all year round! Many people say that the food at Rancho Naturalista is among the best they had during their travels in... More

What a perfect spot! Was here in January with a birding group and enjoyed every minute! Great birds, great view and great birds! Clean and comfortable rooms and delicious meals every day. Multiple Hummingbird feeders and platform feeders with bananas. Hummers flying so close we could feel the wind from their wings. Even for a non-birder the view and the... More

Two couples traveled at Rancho in January for three days. Our husbands were in search of excellent opportunities to photograph birds. Rancho is designed to attract a variety of birds to the feeders and plantings around the patio. Short walks to nearby forest and meadows provide other opportunities for viewing and photography. The men were very happy to take home... More

My husband and I spent 4 happy days at the Rancho, and we loved it. He is the bird-watcher but I saw so many humming-birds on the balconies that even I feel like quite an expert now! He went on several guided trips, which were very resonably priced for the size of the groups and the high level of expertise... More
