I spent six fantastic days and nights here. If you like bird or general nature watching, good food and nice people this is place is a must. And if you happen to travel alone but still like some human contact now and again, the family style meals makes it very easy to get in contact with the other guests. My... More

Rancho has been improved greatly by the new management team. And it still has the family feeling that has made this a great destination for years. Superb birding, amazing views, great food, warm welcomes - what more could you want? Whether hiking the trails or relaxing while watching the feeders, you can't go wrong.

We stayed one night at Rancho Naturalista as part of a birdwatching trip with Massachusetts Audubon. I wish we would have been able to spend another day, but we had an ambitious 10 day itinerary. However, our time at Rancho was well spent. Watching hummingbirds bathe at sunset in a series of pools was a trip highlight. We took a... More

Thank you for visiting Rancho Naturalista with your birdwatching group from Massachusetts Audubon. We are happy that you feel your time at Rancho was well spent and that you enjoyed the hummingbirds. We are glad that you liked the communal style dining and that you appreciated the vegetarian entrees. Our chef tries hard to please every kind of diet. You... More

We really enjoyed our stay here. The owners obviously enjoy having people and everything is geared to "joining in". Meals are communal and enjoyable. The siting combined with the efforts of the staff means that there is always some wildlife activity. The resident guides are exceptional in the knowledge and love of their job.

It's true we really do enjoy having guests stay at our lodge and also being able to share the natural beauty of Costa Rica with them. The guides really are amazing and they love their job. We feel that we are very lucky to do what we do here at Rancho Naturalista. Even though it is hard work it is... More

We stayed at Rancho Naturalista for 3 nights. The accommodations, at the main house, as well as the three meals, were excellent. We went birding with Cali who is a local guide and he was outstanding. He speaks English well and can discuss other things such as plants, ecology etc. Lisa and Mario, the management, were very friendly and helpful.... More

We stayed here for 3 nights as part of an organised tour of Costa Rica. The location is very pleasant indeed with many trails for birding, nature watching or simply enjoying the peaceful countryside (although note that they can be steep and somewhat narrow in places). Service has the personal touch here and the food is absolutely wonderful. I had... More

Thank you for giving us a really nice review! We are happy that you enjoyed the trails for the birding and nature watching. We have just recently put gravel on the trails to the hummingbird pools and the to the forest feeders. This should help make even easier walking for our guests. We always try to keep a personal touch... More

We did not stay at the lodge itself. There were no rooms open. So instead we were fortunate to stay at the owner's house! What a treat!! We treated like personally family friends. We are pleased to know that you liked the food, the spacious and comfortable room, and that you enjoyed having your own private deck to watch the birds come feed on the fruit in the morning. What a nice complement for us that this was probably your favorite place on your whole trip! Thank you for the nice review! More

I made a solo visit to Rancho Naturalista in February and enjoyed it so much, I'm returning in April. Yes, as everyone knows, the birding here is excellent. But I'm not a birder. My interest was in the amazing variety of insects, especiallly moths, to be found at Rancho. During a short four night stay I took over 2500 pictures.... More
