I spent a wonderful 2 nights at Rancho Naturalista on a birding trip with Road Scholar. The owner and staff were very accommodating to my vegetarian diet. The setting is a hummingbird paradise with feeders all around the deck and on a trail, there are feeders on the grounds that attracted collared aracaris and magnificant Montezuma Oropendolas, there's a light... A friend told us that he had never had a better birding experience than here, and we agree. Our guide Harry was brilliant and also fun to bird alongside. The lodge is wonderful for comfortable beds, great food, and a welcoming pair of owners. The hummingbird pools are quite unique. We even saw kinkajous in trees near the lodge in... More

After a hectic fall, we chose to relax by spending eight nights at Rancho Naturalista, rather than chasing around the country for two or three nights here and there. We're glad we stayed put, though we might have stayed one night too long, as, after a while, it becomes challenging to encounter new birds. We very much enjoyed all the... More

We are pleased that you enjoyed spending 8 nights at Rancho Naturalista. Although the weather was overcast much of the time, we are glad that you were able to enjoy the hummingbirds and other species that can be seen from the balcony of the main lodge, as well as having some guided excursions to nearby birding sites. We agree that... More

Not only is this a great place for watching birds (we were on a private birding tour), including a justly famous series of stream-pools where hummingbirds come to bathe every evening, but the service and accommodations are hard to beat. Lisa, our host, has been a long-time CR resident, and her family developed the reserve and trail systems. Food, as... More

A great place for birdwatchers and nature photographers. The covered terrace of the main lodge has hummingbird and platform feeders. Sitting at meals, you can see marvelous birds. Food is freshly prepared, excellent, served family style, the menu is set, served at fixed hours, and diners seated at tables of 8 to 10. You get to know your fellow guests.... More

I will definitely return to this beautiful property. Lisa was a great hostess and made me feel right at home. My room was very nice and clean and faced the rainforest. If you love birds, this is the place to watch and photograph and enjoy! If you are a hiker like me, you will love the beautiful long trails on... More

Lisa and Mario are excellent hosts (they make you feel like family) and the staff is first class. The meals are incredible! I enjoyed six nights at Rancho Naturalista at the end of October. It provided a quiet and most pleasant setting for photography and general nature observation. Lisa and Mario were super hosts and catered to my interests. Lisa even took me and my "volunteer guides" on a day trip to see quetzals! The opportunity to photograph hummingbirds up close was... Rancho Naturalista gets my highest recommendation. The terrific surprise here is the genuine warmth and hospitality of the staff, most particularly manager Lisa Erb. Never in my extensive international travel experiences have I encountered anyone quite like her: a thoroughly knowledgeable, upbeat individual who not only succeeds at making guests feel at home, but also anticipates needs or desires guests... My wife & I stayed four nights @ Rancho Naturalista. We preferred to bird the trails without a guide, and as such didn't see as many species as we would have seen otherwise, but still managed to see quite a bit, including the Snowcap, although that did take some patience. The food was delicious and imaginative, and it's clear that... More

Thank you for the wonderful recomendation, I am pleased that you both enjoyed your stay here. Im also happy that you did get to see the Snowcap.
