We stayed at the Savegre Mountain Hotel. It was wonderful. We were with a tour group that set up all of our activities for us, however the lodge itself has numerous activities and will help plan and arrange them for you. The birdwatching was terrific. more

Hotel is ok; but not really special. San Gerardo de Dota is especially known as the place to observe the quetzal. When you are planning to go for 1 day, don't. Or be sure to be there in the early afternoon. Otherwise you will be short in time. Food was ok. Rooms very basic: bed + bathroom. more

This listing should be under San Gerardo de Dota with the Trogon Lodge which is next door. Word is this is the best place in Costa Rica for spotting Resplendent Quetzal year round. We loved this hotel. Two gentlement who worked the desk were outstanding. Food was acceptable but considering all meals were included it was very good value. Beautiful surroundings. Wonderful hummingbird garden. We saw a dozen Quetzel. Tough drive down to San Gerardo but definately worth it. Even my 15 year old daughter loved it. more

We stayed at Savegre in June 2008. Can't beat the fireplaces in the rainy season- rooms might have gotten a little chilly at night without them! Our tour guide for a morning bird hike was knowledgable and enthusiastic- he drove us up into the cloudforest, and we even saw a quetzal! The food was good and the waiters went out... more
