So I went to Costa Rica last month with my boyfriend and we wanted to stay in some nice hotels and some low budget places as well. After a night at The Arenal Observatory Lodge (All I can say is amazing) we drove into town to stay at Arenal Backpackers. The pool/lounge/bar area is gorgeous and inviting. Cheap beer, decent... more

While many of the places I visited while in Costa Rica in May were spectacular, including Manuel Antonio, La Fortuna by far had my vote when it came to the scenery. We arrived at our hostel in early afternoon, and clouds were just passing over the volcano that we had a PERFECT view of from the Arenal Backpacker's Resort. Not... more

We had a really nice time here...this is more like a nice hotel than a backpackers - beautiful pool, tasty food, great reception staff, pretty building. However, I was literally eaten alive by millions of bed bugs on my first night here...there must have been a huge infestation. The bites caused welts all over my body and I had SO... more

I stayed here with a friend for two nights in late August. We shared the bunk house with 6 others (coed). The room and bathroom were very clean. The air conditioning unit will only run from 10 P.M. to 10 A.M., so it can get pretty hot in the room during the day. We were never really there during the... more

I must say that initially my friends & I were really pleased about the hotel. It was affordable, had an incredible view of the volcano, was in central location, and had an outdoor pool! But on our first night, not only was I bed bug bitten, but my friend had gotten some type of spider bite which left her with... more

We stayed at Arenal Backpacker's for just one night, and we had a very nice time. There were no longer private rooms available, so my boyfriend and I each got a bed in the dorm for $14 each. The guy who checked us in was very attentive, gave us lots of information about available tours, etc. He handed us each... more

We stayed at Backpacker's for 3 nights and had a great experience. There were four young women traveling together and we felt completely safe the whole time. The people at the front desk have to buzz you in, as the whole property is fenced in. The rooms were clean, as well as the bathrooms. The location was perfect, because you... more

I stayed here for 2 nights at the beginning of my trip. It is pretty and clean and a nice retreat! No kitchen, but they do have a decent restaurant. It's a bit of a party place, not so quiet, but lots of fun. The grounds are spectacular! Only issue is that I asked for toilet paper 4 times and... more

as it was the only hotel / backpacker which doesn't accept reservations via e-mail with a credit card (only cash payments in an partner backpacker in San José is accepted), we were told that only from the following night there would be a private room for us (first night was only a bed in a big room), as we asked... more
