When my partner and I arrived we booked into a standard private double for 2-nights. After a long day of travelling I headed straight to the shower only to find that there was no hot water. Upon enquiring at reception the member of staff said 'didn't they tell you that when you checked in?' No they hadn't. The staff were... More

This is a tipical tourist trap. We stayed in a tent for 3 nights- drawn by the chance to book online which is rare in this town on a low budget. My advice would be dont bother- the town is full of hotels so there is no need to book in advance if you are not travelling during peak season.... More

The hostel is right on the main road and incredibly noisy. All staff from receptionist to manager are INCREDIBLY rude. The rooms are over priced and better value can be found. If I could rate this hostel a 0 I would.

We stayed in a tent for two nights... If you go here I don't suggest you do so. Because it is an expensive hostel, we decided to stay in a tent because the concept seemed really interesting and fun. The first night, we had a pretty late night, and after getting back to the tent around 1, we tried to... More

Great setup here. Fun atmosphere, pool (with a slackline!), good food, etc. A group of 6 of us stayed for 3 nights, and while there, it seemed to full of European high schoolers so maybe it caters to the younger crowd (teenage to early 20's)? Staff were pretty good. They were friendly and helpful when approached, they just didn't seem... More

Myself and 4 friends (all early 20's) stayed here for 4 nights in August 2014. Upon viewing the website (and looking to save a few dollars) three of us decided that a triple-occupancy "deluxe tent" would be the best choice; they also seemed pretty neat. The other 2, a couple, chose a dorm style room as there were no other... More

I had no idea where I was going to stay when the bus pulled into La Fortuna. I walked into Arenal Backpackers and knew that was where I wanted to stay. It was very safe-gated with security at night. Housekeeping kept the rooms very clean. The hammocks and pool were a huge plus. Albert-the bartender was so friendly! He told... More

My stay was a one day only, stayed at a tent and it was so cool. Clean, comfortable, secure area, clean bathrooms and cool gsthering area. I loved this place and would love to cone back, the location is spectacular close to town and to the Arenal volcano. Staff is great with cute guys working lol

We stayed at the Arenal Backpackers Resort on the strength of the reviews. It is an "OK" place to stay, but the ratings do seem to over-egg things a bit. It has a very young vibe and on our first night the partying went on very late and very loudly (we are in our late twenties so are not adverse... More

Loved this hostel from the moment I stepped foot in it to when I left. Clean rooms, conveniently located, great prices, *nice* bathrooms, internet lounge, customer service desk with very helpful bilingual staff.... just stay here, you won't regret. Also, great view of Arenal volcano! Even those with a little larger budget would enjoy the permanent tents they have set... More
