This hotel is by far the best view of the Arenal Volcano! The staff is courteous and friendly. The restaurant (food & service) was absolutely phenomenal! The property of this hotel is beautiful with many trails to explore. The pool and jacuzzi are nice too! Only a few drawbacks to this hotel. One, the location is great for the volcano... More

We stayed in their jr. suite the first few nights of our honeymoon. Our room was very spacious, clean and we had a beautiul patio with awesome view of the volcano. At night the volcano errupts and you can see the lava flowing!! It was fantastic. It's a little tricky to find the lodge, you'll pass up all of the... More

Great location with amazing views of the volcano. Cross your fingers that the weather will be clear enough to see it. 2 out of 4 days we couldn't see the eruptions due to fog. The free breakfasts are pretty good, and the staff was friendly. My only complaint about the place was that the guy behind the front desk spent... More

I will start my review off by saying that the view of the volcano was unprecedented. The hotel has a fabulous deck for viewing. The night views were AMAZING....flowing lava, tumbling flaming rocks, spewing erruptions....definitely one of the best experiences I have ever had. I will agree with the other reviews that the hotel is located miles up the bumpiest... More

We had a wonderful two days at Volcan Arenal. The weather was clear and the volcano errupted just as we arrived. The lava display at night was fantastic. The flow right now is on the side facing the lodge so this is the BEST place to stay to see the volcano. The staff was friendly and very eager to please.... More

Pros: Great views of the volcano from the restaurant, and the smithsonian rooms. Our room was clean, big and had spectacular views of the lava flow at night (i guess the lava has shifted back to this side?) The grounds are beautiful, well kept, and there are great hikes you can do on your own or with a guide. Beautiful... More

Although the rocky road up to the Observatory Lodge raised doubts about this hotel, they were quickly dispelled when I saw the amazing setting of the hotel. The views of the volcano are unparalleled, and watching the sun set over the lake was equally magnificent. The standard room was large, clean, and quiet. We could watch the lava from our... More

We had a wonderful stay at the Arenal Observatory Lodge! The rooms were clean and the staff was exceptionally helpful and friendly. The second day we were there housekeeping even left fresh-cut flowers for us on the bedside table. We found the staff to be very GLBT friendly as well. The restaurant was basic, but the hearty breakfast buffet kept... More

If you are going Arenal to see the volcano - this is the place to stay. We stayed in a room in the main building, but the not the most expensive, and it was wonderful. Walked out on balcony, turned right, and there was the volcano. They have this great deck to view the sunset over Arenal Lake and to... More

We stayed at this 'hotel' for 2 nights at the beginning of May. The weather was very wet but we expected this as it is the start of the green season. As a result we had to be patient for views of the volcano. However because we had booked a Smithsonian room I think it would have been easier for... More
