Definitely the place to stay near the volcano. Great rates, great staff, free hiking tour, cheap other tours, just all around fantastic. Excellent bird watching and on property hiking. Hot tub and pools. Just a few miles miles from food and la Fortuna if you don't want to eat at the restaurant on site. Good free breakfast and WiFi. Good... More

I came to this place with my wife to spend here two nights. We found Arenal Observatory Lodge in the internet (on the Google Map to be precise). We were not expecting so much. Our room was the cheapest available ($77/night) with share bathroom. Room was simple but comfortable, very clean and cozy. The best part was the view. Arenal... More

This place is a bit far from La Fortuna, however, no issues if you don't have a car, you can pay for a bus shuttle from San Jose or take a taxi in La Fortuna. The view of the Arenal Volcano is breathtaking, and so the lake. Sunset is gorgeous. The restaurant is a bit pricy but food is not... More

Great place to stay. After lunch we walked around the lodge for a few minutes and immediately saw howler monkeys. It is literally in the middle of the jungle and there's a lot of wild life around. We did the evening walk close to the volcano and were lucky enough to almost see the entire volcano. Also we saw the... More

I stayed at the lodge in mid August 2014, in the La Casonas. My room was the one to the left of the front entrance. If you are looking for great scenery, birds, remoteness, in a nice resort, you are there. Study your route to Arenal from San Jose, as there are at least two routes, one of which is... More

This is a solid 3* lodge that shines for its grounds -- 350 acres of prime forests, multiple hiking trails, and a hanging bridge. Staff is helpful and attentive. We missed the sign towards hotel while traveling from LIR, and had to come back from LA Fortuna. Strongly recommend traveling during daylight on your first day. Note that you would... More

This hotel was great. We had a junior suite and it was definitely worth it. The extra space and the veranda were really nice to have. Loved our mornings seeing all the animals from our veranda. We had great views of the volcano. The views and trails are spectacular. It is great. This lodge is definitely off the beaten path... More

We stayed here with 2 other families and we loved it! The staff was not just friendly but knowledgeable too. They had a daily tour guide set up to explore the trails, birds, and general history of the area. We hired a tour guide to take us on a sloth & monkey tour close by and we also saw frogs... More

My husband, two grown sons and I spent two nights at the Lodge. We had wonderful views of the volcano. We saw many beautiful birds from the deck and on the many trails on the grounds. They serve a nice breakfast with decent coffee, fresh fruits and other choices. The dinners were quite good. One evening I had a perfect steak.... More

We spent only one night at Arenal Observatory Lodge but it was a mistake, we should stay at least one day more. The Hotel is into the Park and it was built for the researcher. Everything is magic and have a classic / old style that is beautiful. The rooms are cozy and clean. We had the Room with Volcano... More
