My husband and I just returned from a two-week stay in Costa Rica and our time at Arenal Observatory Lodge was our favorite portion of the trip. So many wonderful things-- magnificent views of the volcano and Lake Arenal, a great variety of birds everywhere, monkeys howling us awake each morning, beautiful sunsets, several good hiking trails, a plethora of... By far the best place we stayed. The rooms very very spaceous and clean. Showers were perfect. The location is superb with views on the semi active volcano. The restaurant was the very best we have been. Although served in buffet, the choise and the quality of the food was very good. Birdwatching near the lodge was very good. Absolutely... More

We drove up here on our own and was extremely glad we did. Beautiful, Stunning grounds with lots of trails. Easy access to everything from the lodge. We did not stay here, only visited but was treated as if we were guests. The view is amazing and although we stayed at the Lost Iguana Lodge, we would definitely give this... More

Great view and good food in the restaurant. Disappointed by the so-called hiking trails they provided, no wildlife around and pretty steep trails. The place looks amazing if you're planning on staying at the lodge in one of their cabins, swimming pool and great surroundings.

Worth getting a "Smithsonian" room for the view of the volcano and perfect hideway on the balcony for birdwatching even in the event of rain. I was able to spend an entire morning watching the activity the rain created with the wildlife including the coaties as my room was right next to the rain forest. Hilarious to see about 10... More

we took a tour provided by a staff tour guide to the Arenal lava flow in the late afternoon and it was extremely good. Would highly recommend that three to four hour walk. Our guide even took us to find snakes and frogs after dark which was a value add. Food at the lodge was good but not the best... More

Lovely place! Great for bird watching with incredibly beautiful grounds. Wonderful hiking - easy stuff within the ground or more strenuous options further afield. The food was good, too. The staff were helpful and polite.

Staying here was a great value the grounds were so well kept ,gardens, trails, views from lots of places birds and critters abound. Easy walks amid tropical gardens to a pretty strenuous hike up the side of a volcano, something for everyone. The staff was exceptionally helpful especially Jeimy at the reception who helped us reserve some outside activities and... More

We stayed at the lodge a few weeks ago and I can not dispute any of the very positive reviews about this hotel. It was great; a wonderful view of the volcano from our Smithsonian room; beautiful grounds and a lovely pool area with wonderful hot tub to relax in. The included breakfast was plentiful, although aside from the fresh... More
