Arenal Lodge has a wonderful view of Volcan Arenal and the hotel employees are friendly and helpful. We were able to take a tour of the butterfly and bird garden and while the tour itself was a little slim on wildlife, the tour guide, Miguel, was delightful. We stayed in one of the junior suites and had a view of... more

The time we spent there was definitely the highlight of our time in Costa Rica. The resort really had everything we needed. Check in was quick and easy and the staff was very friendly and helpful throughout the entire stay. Of course the rooms were very clean and the service was great but it was really everything else that made... more

I wanted to stay somewhere that afforded me all the benefits of the volcano (the view, nearby access to the hot springs, the lake) without being too close to it, since the hotels that are at the foot of the volcano are often evacuated whenever it explodes. Arenal Lodge was a fantastic choice! It is very quaint, situated in a... more

On the drive around Lake Arenal (breathtaking) we spotted many cheesy signs for Arenal Lodge and thought we made a mistake booking at this hotel... After we passed thru security, there is a 3 kilometer/2 mile bumpy drive up to the hotel. Well worth the climb to the top where the grounds are gorgeous and well-kept and the view from... more

My husband and I checked into the Arenal Lodge and at first thought it seemed like a great, rustic location. Then we got to the room - a junior suite. The smell of mildew was overwhelming and we saw a few bugs. The view was great, so I thought I could stay there for one night. We went into town... more

My husband and I stayed here for three nights. Great hotel with lovely views of the volcano (unfortunately we didnt see it at erupting as night as it was cloudly). The rooms were large and clean, there is a little swimming pool and jacuzzi overlooking the volcano - it's lovely! The food was also good. The hotel is situated about... more

While the Arenal Lodge is a bit older, the service, the view and the grounds, including the pool, are wonderful. We stayed in a chalet on a hill overlooking the rest of the resort. These have a huge glass "bay window" - almost an entire wall of the room is floor to ceiling windows looking at the volcano. The room... more

Stayed in a cabana up on the hill, incredible view, great service from hotel, spacious beautiful grounds, only improvements needed are easier transportation to town (maybe once or twice a day instead of needing a cab each time, the driveway alone takes 10 minutes!), and the restaurant quality was so-so. more

We stayed for four nights, the rooms were cold and damp. We were told by another guest on our last day that there was a switch that operated a dehumidifier that would help alleviate that but were never told by the employees. The mattresses seriously need changing as they are very cheap. The rooms were kept very clean and the... more

A rustic room, but comfortable, quiet , clean and beautiful views and property. food was excellent. very simple ingredients but very careful preparation, steak perfectly cooked, and very fresh ingredients. bird life was incredible. Its isolated though..best to have a car. they should offer a free shuttle service to La Fortuna. this would really help, otherwise $20 each way for... more
