La Fortuna is not cheap but Gringo Pete offers a nice room for only 8$. If you plan to book a tour book it also in this hostel. We asked for a combination tour (canopy, animal park and hot springs) in some agencies - the all wanted 50$ per person. If you book it via Gringo Pete you get it... More

We stayed at Gringo Pete's Too, for two nights & couldn't have been happier with our choice! The owner was super nice & friendly! He told us about the best free & cheap spots to visit, & was very helpful when we wanted to do some of the local activities! The place is kept clean & there's a few areas... More

I stayed here for 5 days in a single room with shared bathroom. The prices are ridiculously low for what you get! The single room is really small (probably 2,5 by 3), but it's good enough. I shared the batroom with 1 other person. The view when I you step out of your room on the first floor is the... More

Considering it is only $6 a night for dorms it's a pretty good place. Nice big kitchen, 7 bed dorms with bathroom and good wifi. The lady working there was pretty rude, but if you can put up with that it's a decent place.

We stayed 2 nights at gringo petes too. There are 2 locations. Best ask before arriving. The rooms were super cheap and clean with a private bathroom for only $8 p.p. however once we wanted to check out to get our deposit we could find a single person. We rang the buzzer for 30 min. Really poor as it was... More

Me and my boyfriend spent two nights at Gringo Pete's Hostel and we loved it. It's by far the cheapest hostel we stayied in our whole trip through Costa Rica, and it's very clean. We payied UU$8 each for a private room with private bathroom, plus UU$10 - refundable when you give back the keys, towels and sheets. The hostel... More

Gringo Pete's has got a nice atmosphere, knowledgable staff and a cute dog, Pelusa. Good communal kitchen, good location, just 4 blocks from the center and clean rooms. The only setback is that they don't give you sheets, only a blanket and it is quite short for tall people.

We stayed at Gringo Pete's too and for considering the price we paid ($8 each for a private room) it was good. Don't expect anything flashy but it was clean and we'll operated. Try and get a rear room as the one we had at the front was a little noisy - we went on a hike to the Arenal... More

The owner show me a private room for the cheapest price you can find around here... Then I started to look the matress, explaining him my allergy to bed bugs... He got weird and told me that he didn't want to rent me the room, because he was afraid that I would make a bad reputation... I guess that was... More

Pete gave us a concise but friendly initial tour. Everything was extremely tidy with a lovely common room; complete with cribbage and other games. He made us feel welcome and comfortable, giving us all the information we needed without being overwhelming. Martha did an excellent job keeping everything in line and providing efficient customer service. Pete really does provide prices... More
